Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

If you run a 48V power system on your boat, the Epoch 48V 100Ah V2 Elite is built for your setup. This lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery delivers 5,120Wh of reliable power in a sealed, waterproof Group 8D case the standard size for marine house banks. It is designed for liveaboards, cruisers, and serious boaters who need a house bank that holds up in wet compartments, charges in cold weather, and integrates cleanly with a Victron Energy system.

Unlike conventional deep-cycle batteries, this battery communicates directly with your Victron Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX. Your entire battery bank up to 16 batteries connected in parallel  reports state of charge, cell voltages, temperature, and alarms to your GX device as one unified system. No guessing how much power you have left at anchor.

The built-in heating system solves one of the most common problems with lithium batteries in marine environments: the inability to charge in cold weather. When temperatures drop below freezing, the battery warms itself automatically and continues accepting a charge down to -22°F (-30°C). Whether you are cruising in the Pacific Northwest, the Great Lakes, or New England, your bank charges when you need it to.

The IP67-rated enclosure is dustproof and waterproof certified for submersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Install it in the bilge, anchor locker, or engine room without concern. The Bluetooth module, built into the included remote gauge, mounts at your helm or nav station so you can check your bank status from anywhere on the boat without going below.

Beyond marine use, this battery is also used in 48V off-grid solar systems, RV and camper van builds, and as a power source for compatible 48V electric outboard motors including ePropulsion and Elco models.

Features

  • IP67 Waterproof Enclosure
The case is certified dustproof and waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. You can install this battery in a bilge, anchor locker, engine room, or any wet compartment on your vessel. This is a tested and certified standard, not a marketing description.
  • Internal Self-Heating System
The battery heats itself automatically when temperatures drop below 32°F (0°C), enabling safe charging down to -22°F (-30°C). LiFePO4 batteries cannot safely accept a charge below freezing without this feature. No manual switch or external power source is required the heater activates on its own and draws from the battery's stored energy.
  • Native Victron CANBUS Communication
Connects directly to Victron Cerbo GX, Cerbo GX MK2, and Ekrano GX using the native Victron protocol not a third-party workaround. The included CAN cable plugs into the BMS-CAN port. Your Victron system reads state of charge, cell voltages, temperature, current, and alarms directly from the battery BMS. Enable DVCC and the system manages your entire charge cycle automatically.
  • Bluetooth Monitoring iOS and Android
The Bluetooth module is built into the included remote gauge, not the battery body. Mount the gauge at your helm or nav station for reliable signal even when the battery is deep in the vessel. The free Epoch app shows state of charge, voltage, current, individual cell voltages, temperature, and alarms for all batteries in your bank on one screen.
  • Up to 16 Batteries in Parallel
Expand your bank without rewiring your system. Batteries connect using the included plug-and-play RJ45 daisy-chain harness. All 16 batteries report to your Victron GX device as a single unified bank. Start with one battery and add more as your needs and budget grow from 5.12kWh with one battery up to 81.9kWh with sixteen.
  • Built-In Smart Battery Management System (BMS)
The internal BMS monitors and protects against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and both high and low temperature conditions. Cell balancing is handled automatically. The BMS communicates real-time data to the Epoch app and to connected Victron GX devices.
  • Over-the-Air Firmware Updates
The BMS receives firmware updates wirelessly through the Epoch app via Bluetooth. Updates may improve Victron communication, state-of-charge accuracy, and charge curve behavior. No service visit or return shipping required.
  • UL94-V0 Flame-Rated Case
The ABS and polycarbonate enclosure meets the UL94-V0 flammability standard the highest self-extinguishing rating for battery cases. The material stops burning when a flame source is removed, an important safety property in the enclosed spaces of a vessel.
  • UL60691-Certified Internal Fuse
The internal fuse is independently certified to UL60691 and rated for high-current slow-blow performance, providing overcurrent protection within the battery itself regardless of external fusing in your system.
  • 3,500+ Cycle Life at 80% Depth of Discharge
Rated for more than 3,500 full charge and discharge cycles at 80% depth of discharge. At daily use that corresponds to approximately 9 to 10 years of service before capacity drops below 80% of its original rating. A quality AGM battery typically delivers 300 to 500 cycles at 50% depth of discharge.
  • Low Self-Discharge Rate
Less than 3% per month. A fully charged battery stored for three months retains approximately 91% of its charge useful for seasonal boaters who store their vessel over winter.
  • Mountable Remote On/Off Switch and Battery Gauge
Both accessories are designed for panel mounting. The gauge displays state of charge, voltage, current, and alarm indicators at a glance. The Bluetooth module is integrated into the gauge so mounting it in an accessible location improves app connectivity across the entire bank.

FAQs

What is this battery designed for?

The Epoch 48V 100Ah V2 Elite is designed primarily for marine house banks on sailboats, trawlers, powerboats, and catamarans running 48V Victron Energy systems. It is also used as a power source for compatible 48V electric outboard motors, off-grid solar energy storage systems, and 48V RV and camper van builds. It is not designed for golf cart applications.

Is this battery waterproof?

Yes. The C48100A carries a certified IP67 rating, meaning the enclosure is fully sealed against dust and tested for submersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It can be installed in bilge compartments, anchor lockers, and engine rooms. Terminal connections and cable entry points should be sealed appropriately for the installation environment.

Will this battery charge in cold weather?

Yes. The internal heating element activates automatically when the battery temperature drops below 32°F (0°C), enabling safe charging down to -22°F (-30°C). The heater draws from the battery's own stored energy and requires no manual switch or external power source. Discharge is rated to -4°F (-20°C) without heating.

Does this battery work with my Victron system?

Yes. The V2 Elite communicates natively with Victron Cerbo GX, Cerbo GX MK2, and Ekrano GX using the Victron CANBUS protocol. Connect the included CAN cable to the BMS-CAN port on your GX device. For the Cerbo GX MK2, use VE-CAN1 or VE-CAN2 and set the port speed to 500 kbps LV. Enable DVCC on the Cerbo, set the controlling BMS to Epoch, and set the battery monitor to Epoch. Full setup instructions are in the Victron Setup tab.

Do I need a separate battery monitor with this battery?

No. The C48100A has an internal shunt and reports state of charge, voltage, current, cell voltages, temperature, and alarms directly to your Victron GX device via CANBUS and locally on the included gauge. A separate Victron SmartShunt or BMV is not required for the system to operate correctly.

How many batteries can I connect in parallel?

Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel using the included plug-and-play RJ45 daisy-chain harness. Voltage stays at 51.2V nominal. Capacity scales proportionally: 2 batteries provide 200Ah and 10.24kWh, 4 batteries provide 400Ah and 20.48kWh, and 16 batteries provide 1,600Ah and 81.92kWh. All batteries report to a connected Victron GX device as one unified bank.

Can I add more batteries to my bank later?

Yes. The plug-and-play parallel system allows you to expand your bank at any time up to 16 batteries without rewiring your system. When adding a new battery, bring it to the same state of charge as the existing batteries before connecting, and set the DIP switch address per the included manual. Many buyers start with two batteries and add more as needed.

Can I wire this battery in series?

No. Series connections are not supported on the C48100A. The BMS is not designed for series configuration. Wiring in series will damage the BMS and void the warranty. This battery operates in parallel configurations only.

Can I monitor all my batteries from one screen on the app?

Yes. The Epoch app supports a single dashboard view for all batteries in a parallel bank up to 16 batteries. State of charge, voltage, current, cell voltages, temperature, and alarms for every battery appear on one screen. The Bluetooth module is built into the remote gauge, so mounting the gauge at your helm or nav station gives you reliable app connectivity across the entire bank.

What are the correct charger settings for a non-Victron system?

Program your charger with these settings: Absorption voltage 56.8V, absorption time minimum 15 minutes, float voltage 54.0V, re-bulk voltage 53.2V, maximum charge voltage 58.4V, equalization disabled, temperature compensation none (0 mV/°C). For charger recommendations specific to your installation, contact Epoch Batteries at 1-888-501-1846 and  support@epochbatteries.com or call us.

Does this battery work with solar charge controllers?

Yes. Program the MPPT controller to the same settings as above: Absorption 56.8V, Float 54.0V, Re-bulk 53.2V, equalization disabled, temperature compensation none. With a Victron MPPT and Cerbo GX running DVCC, the battery BMS sends these parameters to the controller automatically. Maximum continuous charge current is 100A per battery, which at 51.2V corresponds to approximately 5,120 watts of solar input per battery.

Is this battery safe to use on a boat?

LiFePO4 chemistry is the most thermally stable lithium chemistry available for marine use and does not enter thermal runaway under common abuse conditions. The C48100A adds a UL94-V0 flame-rated enclosure that self-extinguishes when a flame source is removed. The internal BMS protects against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and temperature extremes. The battery also carries UL 1973 (pack), UL 1642 and UL 9540A (cells), IEC 62619:2022, CE, and RoHS certifications.

Will this battery work safely with my alternator?

Careful setup is required. LiFePO4 batteries charge rapidly and can stress an unprotected alternator when the BMS disconnects at full charge. With a Victron system and DVCC enabled, the battery BMS manages charge current dynamically to protect the alternator. For non-Victron systems, use a DC-DC battery-to-battery charger between the alternator output and the lithium bank. Do not connect a standard alternator directly to a LiFePO4 battery without proper protection in place.

How does this compare to AGM batteries in usable capacity?

An AGM battery should not be discharged below 50% without accelerating wear, giving approximately 50Ah of usable power from a 100Ah battery. The C48100A is rated for 80% depth of discharge, giving approximately 80Ah of usable power from the same 100Ah rating 60% more usable capacity per cycle. LiFePO4 also holds a flat voltage throughout discharge, so your electronics receive consistent voltage rather than the gradually dropping voltage of a lead-acid battery as it depletes.

How long will the battery hold its charge during winter storage?

Self-discharge is less than 3% per month. A fully charged battery stored for six months retains approximately 82% of its charge under recommended storage conditions. For storage beyond three months, store the battery at 50 to 80% state of charge in a temperature range between -4°F and 113°F (-20°C to 45°C). Do not store in a fully discharged state.

Can I ship this battery by air or use expedited shipping?

No. This battery ships ground only under UN 3480, Class 9 dangerous goods regulations. Air shipping and expedited courier services that use air transport are not available. Plan your installation timeline based on standard ground shipping transit times.
