Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

The Eco Battery Gen3 48V 105Ah Thru-Hole Bundle is a complete lithium conversion kit designed specifically for Club Car electric golf carts. The battery operates at a nominal voltage of 51.2V, which is the standard working voltage for all 48V-class lithium golf cart systems. It replaces the original lead-acid battery pack with a single Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) unit and includes every cart-specific part needed for a clean, finished installation charger, DC-DC converter, charge port, mounting hardware, LCD meter, and remote wake-up button.

This is a fitment-matched bundle. The parts included depend on the Club Car model you select, Precedent, Onward, Tempo, DS A-Frame, DS H-Frame, or Carryall. Each version ships with the correct mounting bracket, charge port, and hardware for that specific platform. There is no guesswork about compatibility.

At the core of the kit is Eco Battery's patented Thru-Hole platform. The battery mounts using a center rod that passes through the battery housing, attaching directly to the Club Car's existing J-hook mount. No modifications to the cart frame are required. The result is a secure, low-profile installation that looks and feels factory-fitted.

The Gen3 Battery Management System (BMS) is Eco Battery's proprietary system, designed and engineered in the USA. It actively monitors cell voltage, temperature, and current in real time. It protects against overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and temperature extremes. It also communicates with the included CAN-enabled charger, which removes the need for any On-Board Computer (OBC) modification on Club Car models that have one.

The battery ships with Bluetooth connectivity and mobile app access for iOS and Android. Through the app, you can monitor state of charge, voltage, current draw, and cell temperature. Over-the-air firmware updates are supported, so the BMS stays current without requiring a service visit.

Charge time from fully depleted using the included 15A CAN charger is approximately 7 hours. Partial charging is perfectly acceptable and does not harm the battery. The battery can also be connected to two units in parallel if expanded capacity is needed in the future.

Range: Eco Battery rates this unit at 20 to 45 miles per charge. Actual range depends on cart setup, terrain, tire size, passenger load, driving speed, and overall system efficiency. Stock carts on flat ground will approach the upper end. Heavily loaded carts on hills will see shorter range.
Cold weather note: The standard version of this battery will not accept a charge when the internal battery temperature is below 32°F. If your cart is stored or charged in an unheated garage, barn, or shed in a cold climate, consider the heated battery option. The heated version allows charging in ambient temperatures down to -30°F and operates fully automatically via CAN.

We are an authorized reseller of Eco Battery products. This bundle ships directly as configured by Eco Battery and is backed by Eco Battery's Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years of full replacement coverage, provided the battery is registered at ecobattery.com within 60 days of purchase. Batteries not registered within that window carry a 1-year limited warranty only.

This bundle does not fit carts that came from the factory with a lithium battery already installed. It is designed for electric Club Car carts currently running a lead-acid pack. Verify your model in the dropdown before ordering.

Features

  • Fitment-matched bundle: Every bundle is built around your specific Club Car model. The mounting bracket, charge port, and hardware included are correct for your cart not a generic universal kit.
  • Patented Thru-Hole mounting design: The battery mounts using a center rod through the housing that connects to the Club Car's existing J-hook. No frame drilling or modification required. Covered by US Design Patents D975,644 S and D1,001,070 S.
  • Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry: LiFePO4 is the most thermally stable lithium chemistry available for this application. It does not produce the same thermal runaway risk associated with other lithium chemistries. The 16 prismatic cells are arranged in a 1P16S configuration.
  • Gen3 proprietary BMS designed in the USA: The Battery Management System monitors every cell in real time. It protects against pack over-voltage, pack under-voltage, cell over-voltage, cell under-voltage, discharge over-current, charge over-current, high temperature, low temperature, and short circuit. It communicates with the charger and optional controllers via CAN.
  • IP67 water and dust resistance: The powder-coated steel shell is rated IP67, meaning it is sealed against dust and can withstand temporary submersion. The shell should not be pressure-washed, but it handles normal weather exposure without issue.
  • CAN charger communication, no OBC bypass needed: The included 15A CAN charger communicates directly with the battery BMS. On Club Car models equipped with an On-Board Computer (OBC), no bypass of the OBC is required when using the Eco Battery charger. This removes one of the most common complications in Club Car lithium conversions.
  • Bluetooth and mobile app monitoring: Connect via the Eco Battery app on iOS or Android to view real-time state of charge, voltage, current, and cell temperature. No additional hardware required.
  • Over-the-air firmware updates: BMS firmware can be updated wirelessly through the Eco Battery app. No dealer visit or tools required.
  • Remote wake-up button: The included remote button kit can be mounted on the dash. It wakes the battery from Power Save Mode without requiring access to the battery compartment. The button cannot accidentally shut the battery off it can only power it on, for safety.
  • Power Save Mode, automatic battery protection: When the cart sits idle, the BMS enters Power Save Mode to prevent full discharge. At 20% charge or above, Power Save activates after 7 days of inactivity. Below 20%, it activates after 24 hours. The cart's parasitic draw will not drain the battery to zero.
  • Auto charger wake-up: Plugging in the charger automatically wakes the battery from Power Save Mode. You do not need to press the power button first.
  • Parallel connectable, up to two units: Two batteries can be connected in parallel for expanded capacity if needed for utility or long-range applications.
  • Works with stock and upgraded controllers: The battery supports up to 250A continuous discharge and 600A for 5 seconds. It is compatible with both factory Club Car controllers and aftermarket upgrades commonly used in performance builds.
  • Zero maintenance: No water to add, no terminals to clean, no acid to manage. The battery requires only periodic charging (at minimum once every 6 months during storage).
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years full replacement: Backed by Eco Battery's warranty, which provides 6 years of full replacement coverage. The battery must be registered at ecobattery.com within 60 days of purchase to activate the full warranty duration.

Installation Overview

This section covers what to expect during installation. Full model-specific installation guides are available at ecobattery.com/quickstart. Video installation guides for each Club Car platform are also available on the Eco Battery YouTube channel.

Who should install this battery? The installation involves working with high-voltage electrical components. Eco Battery recommends that anyone who is not trained in golf cart electrical systems have this battery installed by a qualified technician or Eco Battery dealer. If you have experience with golf cart wiring and are comfortable with the steps below, many owners complete this installation themselves.

What you will need:

  • Two people for the lift, the battery weighs 98 lbs
  • Standard hand tools (metric and standard sockets, wrenches)
  • Insulated gloves and eye protection

General installation sequence:

  • Turn the cart key to off and set the parking brake
  • Remove the seat and access the battery compartment
  • Disconnect and remove the existing lead-acid battery pack
  • Install the cart-specific mounting bracket included in your bundle
  • Lower the Eco Battery unit into position using the Thru-Hole center rod and J-hook hardware
  • Connect the positive and negative terminals largest cable (highest draw) closest to the battery
  • Install the DC-DC 12V converter using the wiring diagram in the manual
  • Install the charge port in the cart's existing charge port location
  • Mount the LCD state-of-charge meter and route the CAN cable
  • Install the remote wake-up button in a convenient dash location
  • Connect the CAN charger and verify the CAN cable is seated in one of the two CAN ports on the meter cable
  • Power on the battery using the illuminated power button hold for approximately 1 second until the green LED activates
  • Connect the charger to AC power and verify the charger LED blinks red during charging
CAN charger note: The included charger is CAN-enabled. It will not begin charging unless the CAN connector from the charger is plugged into one of the two CAN ports on the battery meter cable. This is a common missed step during first installation.
OBC (On-Board Computer): When using the Eco Battery CAN charger included in this bundle, you do not need to bypass or modify the OBC on your Club Car. The Eco Battery charger communicates directly with the battery and handles the charging cycle independently. Club Car owners commonly report that 48V DS and Precedent models built roughly between 1995 and 2014 are the ones most likely to have an OBC installed. If your cart is in that range and you have been worried about the OBC complicating a lithium conversion, the Eco Battery CAN charger is specifically what removes that concern.

First charge after installation: Charge the battery fully before first use. After long-term storage, always charge fully before use regardless of the charge percentage shown on the meter, as the state of charge reading may drift during storage and requires a full charge cycle to re-calibrate.

Register your battery: Within 60 days of purchase, register at ecobattery.com/register to activate the full Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years of full replacement. Batteries not registered within 60 days carry a 1-year limited warranty only.

FAQs

Does this battery work with my Club Car's On-Board Computer (OBC)?

Yes. When using the Eco Battery CAN charger included in this bundle, you do not need to bypass or modify the OBC on your Club Car. The charger communicates directly with the battery via CAN and manages the charge cycle independently of the OBC.

Club Car owners commonly report that 48V DS and Precedent models built roughly between 1995 and 2014 are the ones most likely to have an OBC installed. If your cart falls in that window and bypassing the OBC has been a concern stopping you from switching to lithium, the Eco Battery CAN charger removes that obstacle entirely. If you are unsure whether your specific cart has an OBC, check inside the battery compartment for a small black module wired into the charging circuit.

How far will the cart go on a full charge?

Eco Battery rates this battery at 20 to 45 miles per charge. The actual range you experience depends on your specific cart setup, terrain, tire size, number of passengers, driving speed, and how the cart has been modified. A stock two-passenger cart on flat ground will perform toward the upper end of that range. A heavily loaded cart climbing hills will see less range. The battery provides 252 minutes of reserve capacity at a 25A continuous draw, which represents a typical moderate-load scenario.

Can I use my existing Club Car charger with this battery?

No. Eco Battery requires the use of a genuine Eco Battery lithium charger, or a charger specifically approved by Eco Battery. Using a non-approved charger or battery tender will void the warranty. The included 15A CAN charger (A-1055) is matched to this battery and is required for the CAN communication that enables proper charging. Do not connect any third-party charger or tender to this battery.

What is the Thru-Hole design and how does it mount?

The Thru-Hole refers to a channel that runs through the center of the battery housing. A mounting rod passes through this channel and connects to the Club Car's existing J-hook mount in the battery compartment. This means the battery uses the same mounting point your lead-acid pack used no drilling, no frame modification, and no custom fabrication. The bundle includes the specific J-hook hardware or mounting bracket for your cart model. The battery is covered by two US design patents for this mounting system.

Will this battery work with my upgraded motor or controller?

Yes. The Gen3 battery supports up to 250A continuous discharge and 600A discharge for 5 seconds. This covers the output range of most aftermarket controllers commonly used in Club Car performance upgrades. If you are running a very high-output build, verify your controller's peak amp draw against the battery's rated output. The battery is compatible with both stock and upgraded motors and controllers per Eco Battery's specifications.

Can this battery charge in cold weather?

The standard version of this battery will not accept a charge when the internal battery temperature is below 32°F. This applies to both plug-in charging and regenerative charging from a motor controller. The battery will continue to discharge normally down to -20°F. If your cart is stored or charged in an unheated space in a cold climate, consider the heated battery option. The heated version allows charging in ambient temperatures down to -30°F and operates fully automatically no programming or user input required.

Note: The temperature threshold is the internal battery temperature, not the outside air temperature. The battery's internal temperature changes more slowly than ambient air, so the battery may remain above 32°F internally even when the air outside is colder.

How do I activate the full warranty?

Register your battery at ecobattery.com/register within 60 days of purchase. Registration is required to activate the Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years of full replacement coverage. Batteries that are not registered within 60 days carry a 1-year limited warranty only. As an authorized reseller, we recommend completing registration as soon as the battery is installed.

What is Power Save Mode and what do I do if the battery will not turn on?

Power Save Mode is an automatic protection feature that shuts the battery completely down after extended periods of inactivity, preventing it from being fully depleted by the cart's parasitic electrical draw. At 20% charge or above, Power Save activates after 7 days without use. Below 20% charge, it activates after 24 hours.

When the battery is in Power Save Mode, all indicator lights go dark. To wake it, press and release either the remote wake-up button on the dash or the power button on the battery itself. Alternatively, plugging in the charger will also wake the battery automatically. If the battery has gone to sleep on its own, charge it fully before your next use.

Can I connect two of these batteries together?

Yes. Up to two units can be connected in parallel, which increases total capacity to 210Ah. They cannot be connected in series. Parallel connection is useful for utility applications, heavy-use commercial carts, or owners who want to significantly extend range. Contact us before ordering a parallel setup to confirm compatibility with your specific cart platform and bundle configuration.

How do I store the battery during winter?

Eco Battery recommends leaving the battery on with the charger connected if the cart will be used within 15 days. For storage longer than 15 days, charge the battery above 50%, disconnect the charger AC power cord, and turn the battery off using the power button. Charge the battery at least once every 6 months during storage. After returning from long-term storage, charge fully before use to re-calibrate the state-of-charge meter, regardless of what percentage is displayed. Do not store the cart below -4°F with the battery installed if temperatures will drop below that point, remove the battery and store it somewhere warmer.

How do I know which Club Car DS frame style I have, A-Frame or H-Frame?

The A-Frame (common) and H-Frame (uncommon) refer to the shape of the steel frame under the battery compartment. The H-Frame has a cross-member that forms an H shape when viewed from below. The A-Frame does not have this cross-member. The easiest way to check is to look at your cart from underneath or consult your cart's serial number and build sheet. If you are not sure, contact us with your cart's serial number before ordering and we will confirm the correct bundle for your specific cart.

What does the error code on my LCD meter mean?

The Gen3 BMS displays Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) on the LCD meter when a fault is detected. There are three severity levels. Level 1 faults (E01, E02, E03, E16, E17) are serious and will not self-resolve contact Eco Battery support directly. Level 2 faults (E04 through E07) are major faults that may self-resolve when conditions return to normal. Level 3 faults (E08 through E15) are minor and will typically self-resolve. If you see any error code, note the code number and contact us or Eco Battery support at 877-326-2288 or support@ecobattery.com.
