Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

This bundle fits your Yamaha G29 Drive or Drive2.
-Yamaha Drive (2007 - 2010)
-Yamaha Drive (2011+)
-Yamaha Drive2
The battery is the same unit across both year ranges. If you own a Yamaha G1 through G16, contact us those are 36V carts that require a different product.

Eco Battery GEN3 48V 105Ah Thru-Hole Lithium Bundle is a complete lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) conversion kit designed for the Yamaha Drive (G29) and Drive2 golf cart. It replaces your entire set of lead-acid batteries typically six 8-volt units with a single 98 lb lithium pack. Everything needed for a complete installation is included in the box based on your year selection: battery, CAN charger, 12V DC converter, LCD state-of-charge meter, locking charge port, mounting hardware, and remote wake-up button.

Consistent power from the first hole to the last. Lead-acid batteries lose voltage as they discharge the cart slows down on hills and feels tired by the back nine. LiFePO4 chemistry holds a flat voltage curve from a full charge all the way down to near-empty. The cart performs the same at 20% charge as it does at 90%.

Your factory Yamaha OBC charger is replaced by the included CAN charger. The Yamaha Drive and Drive2 use a factory on-board charger (OBC) designed for lead-acid batteries. LiFePO4 requires a different charge profile the OBC is disconnected during installation and replaced by the included 15A CAN charger. The CAN charger communicates directly with the battery's BMS in real time for safe, precise charging every cycle. Step-by-step OBC bypass instructions are included.

Zero maintenance from the day you install it. No watering, no acid checks, no corrosion cleaning, no equalization charges. The BMS monitors and balances every cell automatically. Firmware updates are delivered wirelessly through the Eco Battery mobile app via Bluetooth the battery improves over time without any action from you.

Register your battery within 60 days of purchase at ecobattery.com/register to activate the full-duration limited warranty. Batteries not registered within 60 days carry a 1-year limited warranty only.

Compatibility

This bundle is compatible with the following Yamaha golf cart year ranges. The battery is identical across both. Only the charge port and mounting hardware differ.

Yamaha Drive / G29 — 2007 to 2010 Includes charge port A-4046 and mounting kit A-8212. These carts typically use six 8-volt lead-acid batteries in the stock battery tray. The factory OBC charger is disconnected during installation.
Yamaha Drive / G29 (2011–2016) and Drive2 (2017 and Newer) Includes charge port A-4042 and mounting kit A-8202. Same lead-acid bank configuration. Drive2 introduced an updated frame layout — the battery and core hardware are the same as 2011–2016 Drive models.

What about Yamaha G1 through G16?

Yamaha G1 through G16 carts (produced 1979 to approximately 2002) are 36-volt systems. They are not compatible with this 48V / 51.2V Thru-Hole bundle. Installing this battery in a 36V cart would damage the cart's electrical system. G1–G16 owners require a completely different Eco Battery product. Contact us before ordering if you have a G1–G16.

OBC charger what happens to it:

The Yamaha Drive and Drive2 include a factory on-board charger (OBC) designed for lead-acid battery charging profiles. LiFePO4 batteries require a different charge profile and are incompatible with the OBC. During installation, the OBC is bypassed or removed from the charging circuit. The included CAN charger connects to the new locking charge port and handles all charging going forward. Instructions for this step are included in the installation guide.

This bundle does not fit:

  • Yamaha G1 through G16 36V system, requires a different Eco Battery product
  • Yamaha G19 / G22 requires the Eco Battery Skinny bundle
  • Gas-powered Yamaha golf carts
  • Yamaha carts with factory-installed OEM lithium battery systems
  • EZGO, Club Car, or other brands separate model-specific bundles required

Not sure of your Yamaha model year? The serial number is on a metal plate on the driver-side frame near the battery compartment. Contact us with your serial number and we will confirm the correct variant before you order.

Use and Care

Daily use:

  • Charge the battery daily to keep it fully charged and ready for use.
  • The battery does not need to be turned off after each use. It is recommended to leave the power button on and the charger connected if the cart will be used within 15 days.
  • Avoid running the battery below 20% state of charge. Although the BMS protects against damaging discharge, running the battery to 0% regularly is not recommended. Monitor the SOC meter just as you would a fuel gauge.
  • Partial charges are acceptable at any time and do not harm the battery. LiFePO4 chemistry does not develop a memory effect — charging every night will not reduce lifespan.
  • The charger is not a float charger or battery maintainer. It will not hold the battery at 100% after a charge cycle completes. If left plugged in, the battery must drop below a pre-set voltage before a new charge cycle begins. It is normal for the SOC to drop as low as 90% before the charger restarts.

Storage:

  • For storage beyond 15 days: charge the battery above 50%, disconnect the charger's AC power cord, and turn the battery off using the on/off button.
  • Charge the battery at least once every 6 months during extended storage.
  • After long-term storage, fully charge the battery before use regardless of SOC displayed. SOC may drift during storage and a full charge is needed to re-calibrate the BMS.
  • If the cart will be stored below -4°F, remove the battery from the cart and store it in a location above -4°F.

Cold weather:

  • The battery discharges down to -20°F (-29°C). Driving in cold weather is supported.
  • The battery will not accept a charge below 32°F. This includes plug-in charging and regenerative charging from the motor controller. The BMS freeze protection activates automatically — this is normal and protective.
  • Do not drive a cart with a regenerative charging/braking system when overnight lows are below 32°F. Doing so may cause the battery to enter self-protection mode and can trigger braking system faults on certain carts.
  • Performance and range decreases in cold temperatures are normal and expected. This includes shorter run times, slightly slower acceleration, and larger voltage drops under load.

Cleaning:

  • Do not pressure wash the battery. Pressure washing can damage the lid seal and is not covered under the warranty policy.
  • Do not use chemical cleaning agents of any kind on the battery.
  • Clean the battery by blowing it off with a leaf blower or wiping it with a clean, damp cloth.

FAQs

Which Yamaha models does this bundle fit?

This bundle fits two Yamaha Drive year ranges both using the same GEN3 51.2V 105Ah Thru-Hole battery (A-051105-01) with different year-specific hardware:

  • Yamaha Drive / G29 (2007–2010) includes charge port A-4046 and mounting kit A-8212.
  • Yamaha Drive / G29 (2011–2016) and Drive2 (2017 and newer) — includes charge port A-4042 and mounting kit A-8202.

This bundle does not fit Yamaha G1 through G16 (36V carts), Yamaha G19/G22 (requires Skinny bundle), gas-powered Yamaha carts, or any other golf cart brand.

What happens to the factory Yamaha OBC charger?

The Yamaha Drive and Drive2 factory OBC (on-board charger) is designed for lead-acid battery charging profiles and is not compatible with LiFePO4 chemistry. As part of this installation, the OBC is bypassed or disconnected from the charging circuit. The included 15A CAN charger connects to the new locking charge port and handles all charging going forward. Step-by-step OBC bypass instructions are included with the kit. This is a standard and expected step in every Yamaha Drive lithium conversion.

Can I use my existing Yamaha charger plug with this battery?

No. The factory Yamaha charge plug and receptacle are part of the OBC system and are not used after this conversion. The bundle includes a new year-specific locking quick-connect charge port that installs on the cart and accepts only the included CAN charger. Using any non-approved charger or tender will void the battery warranty.

Is everything I need included, or do I need to buy anything separately?

For a standard stock Yamaha Drive or Drive2, everything required is included: battery, CAN charger, 12V DC converter, LCD state-of-charge meter, year-specific locking charge port, year-specific thru-hole mounting hardware, and remote wake-up button. You will need common hand tools and the free Eco Battery mobile app to complete setup and activate OTA firmware updates. Some advanced BMS configurations on modified carts may require the Eco Battery Tech Tool (A-0012) contact us if you have questions about your specific setup.

My Yamaha is a G1 through G16. Can I use this bundle?

No. Yamaha G1 through G16 carts are 36-volt systems. This bundle is for 48V Yamaha Drive and Drive2 carts only. Connecting a 51.2V battery to a 36V system will damage the cart's electrical system and is not supported. G1–G16 owners require a completely different Eco Battery product. Contact us and we will point you to the correct option for your cart.

Will my lights, horn, and 12V accessories still work?

Yes. The included DC-DC 12V converter (A-1272) converts the lithium pack's voltage to 12V and powers all 12V cart accessories lights, horn, turn signals, USB ports. Connect the orange wire to the ON side of the key switch for switched 12V power. If constant 12V power is needed for accessories that must stay on when the key is off, connect the orange wire directly to the positive terminal of the battery instead. This converter is included and must be installed as part of the conversion.

How far will this battery take me on a single charge?

Under typical conditions on a standard Yamaha Drive or Drive2 flat to moderately hilly golf course or neighborhood terrain owners report approximately 40 to 45 miles per charge. The reserve capacity at a 25A draw is 252 minutes (4.2 hours), which supports multiple full 18-hole rounds without recharging. Performance and range decrease somewhat in cold weather shorter run times and slightly slower acceleration in low temperatures are normal and expected.

How long does a full charge take?

The included 15A CAN charger provides a full charge from 0% to 100% in approximately 7 hours (105Ah divided by 15A). Partial charges from typical daily use take less time. The charger shuts off automatically when the charge cycle completes. Partial charges at any time are acceptable and do not affect battery lifespan LiFePO4 chemistry has no memory effect. Charging every night will not harm the battery.

What is Power Save Mode and how does it work?

Power Save Mode is an automatic feature that prevents the battery from fully depleting when the cart sits idle for extended periods all golf carts draw some power even with the key off. When Power Save is active, the battery completely powers down, stopping both charging and discharging. The meter, wake-up button LED, and power button LED all turn off.

Power Save activates after 7 days of inactivity when SOC is between 20–100%, or after 24 hours when SOC is between 0–19%. To exit Power Save Mode, press and release either the remote wake-up button or the on/off button on the battery. If the battery has entered Power Save on its own, fully charge it before driving.

Can I use this battery in cold weather?

The battery discharges down to -20°F (-29°C), so driving in cold weather is supported. However, the battery will not accept a charge below 32°F this includes both plug-in charging and regenerative charging from the motor controller. The BMS charging freeze protection activates automatically below 32°F and is a protective feature, not a defect. Do not drive a cart with regenerative braking when overnight lows are below 32°F, as this can trigger braking system faults. For storage below -4°F, remove the battery from the cart and store it above -4°F.

What does the SOC meter display and what do the error codes mean?

The LCD SOC meter displays battery voltage, state of charge as a percentage (color-coded green 100–50%, white 49–20%, red 19–0%), and charge/discharge current in amps. It receives data directly from the BMS and does not require calibration the BMS self-calibrates at the end of each full charge cycle. Accuracy is +/- 5%.

If a fault is detected, the meter displays a diagnostic trouble code (E01–E17). Level 1 codes are serious faults that will not self-resolve contact Eco Battery support. Level 2 and 3 codes are major or minor faults that may self-resolve when conditions allow. If an error code appears, record the code and contact us or Eco Battery support at support@ecobattery.com / 877-326-2288.

Does the battery need to be registered?

Yes. The battery must be registered within 60 days of purchase at ecobattery.com/register to activate the full-duration limited warranty. Batteries not registered within 60 days carry a 1-year limited warranty only. Registration is a simple process on Eco Battery's website and requires your battery serial number.

Where does warranty and technical support come from?

Eco Battery is the manufacturer and warranty holder. Technical support and warranty claims are handled by Eco Battery's US-based team: support@ecobattery.com or 877-326-2288. Additional resources including installation guides, user manuals, and the Bluetooth app are available at ecobattery.com/quickstart.
