Built for dual-motor 4WD amp draw
The Bad Boy Recoil runs two 300A motor controllers. Climbing, hauling game and pushing through mud creates high current spikes that cause lower-rated lithium packs to shut down. The Godzilla BMS delivers 300A continuously, 500A for up to 50 seconds and 800A in 1-second bursts, so it keeps supplying power through the hardest pulls.
Range for a full day in the field
With 13,056Wh on board, the 170Ah pack is sized for dawn-to-dusk hunts, large properties and multi-day trips. Bad Boy rated the Recoil at up to 40 miles and the Instinct at up to 50 miles on new lead-acid batteries. This pack is estimated at 40 to 70 miles per charge, and lithium holds its voltage as it discharges, so performance stays consistent until the pack is nearly empty.
Charges overnight, even in the cold
The included 25A charger refills the pack in approximately 6.8 hours, compared with the 8 to 12 hours typical of the factory lead-acid setup. Self-heated charging warms the cells before current flows when temperatures are below freezing, which protects the cells during late-season hunts and unheated barn storage.
Made for rough terrain
The battery uses a metal shell with a baked-varnish finish, an IP65 splash and dust rating, and side-mounted terminals that keep heavy cables clear of the seat frame. Grade A prismatic LiFePO4 cells are rated for 6,000+ charge cycles.
Know your charge at a glance
The round color dash gauge shows voltage, state of charge, temperature and current draw, and includes a power button to switch the battery off for storage. Built-in Bluetooth connects to the free Lithium Rhino app for per-cell data, fault alerts and remote diagnostics.
Who this kit is for
Owners of 72V Bad Boy Buggies and related 72V electric UTVs who want the longest range in a single pack, reliable power under heavy 4WD load, and a complete kit with nothing extra to buy.

48V vehicles, including 48V Bad Boy Classic and XT models and the Ambush iS hybrid (48V electric drivetrain). This battery is for 72V systems only.
How to confirm your vehicle is 72V
Count the lead-acid batteries and check their voltage. Six 12V batteries or nine 8V batteries wired in series make a 72V system. Four 12V or six 8V batteries make a 48V system.
Fit notes
- The battery measures 20.7 x 17.9 x 12.6 in. Measure your tray, including clearance for the mounting flanges at the base.
- Most Bad Boy trays use plastic dividers or a battery tub for the lead-acid batteries. Remove them to create a flat mounting surface.
- Mount the battery as close to the center of the tray as possible to keep the vehicle's balance and 4WD traction.
- Recoil iS (nine 8V battery tray): contact us to confirm fit before ordering.
Factory controller compatibility
The kit works with the factory 72V Curtis AC motor controllers used on the Recoil, Instinct and Recoil Crew. Most installations need no reprogramming. If a controller shows a fault after installation, a controller reprogram typically resolves it. Contact us for help.
Installation
Most owners complete the conversion in 2 to 4 hours with basic hand tools. Lithium Rhino provides step-by-step instructions and free remote install support by video call.
- Turn the vehicle off and disconnect the main power. Remove the lead-acid batteries one at a time using the included removal strap. A six-battery 72V bank is heavy, so work with a helper.
- Remove the tray dividers or battery tub and clean the tray.
- Set the battery in the center of the tray and secure it with the universal brackets and hardware.
- Connect the 2AWG copper cables from the side-mounted terminals to the vehicle's main positive and negative leads. Double-check polarity before connecting.

FAQ
Will the Lithium Rhino 76V 170Ah fit my Bad Boy Buggy?
The Lithium Rhino 76V 170Ah Godzilla kit fits the 72V Bad Boy Buggies Recoil, Instinct and Recoil Crew, as well as the Tracker EViS and E-Z-GO Express 4x4. The battery measures 20.7 x 17.9 x 12.6 in, and most Bad Boy trays need the plastic lead-acid dividers removed to create a flat mounting surface. It does not fit 48V vehicles.
Is my Bad Boy Buggy 72V or 48V?
Count the lead-acid batteries. Six 12V batteries or nine 8V batteries make a 72V system, which this kit is designed for. Four 12V or six 8V batteries make a 48V system. The Recoil, Instinct and Recoil Crew are 72V, while the Ambush iS hybrid and some older Classic and XT models are 48V.
Does it work with the factory Bad Boy controller, or do I need to reprogram it?
The kit works with the factory 72V Curtis AC controllers used on the Recoil, Instinct and Recoil Crew, and most installations need no reprogramming. The battery runs at 76.8V nominal and 87.6V at full charge. If a controller shows a fault after installation, a controller reprogram typically resolves it.
Can this battery handle the amp draw of a dual-motor 4WD Bad Boy?
Yes. The Bad Boy Recoil uses two 300A controllers, and the Godzilla BMS delivers 300A continuously, 500A for up to 50 seconds and 800A in 1-second bursts. That headroom helps prevent the power cutouts lower-rated packs experience on hills, in mud and when hauling heavy loads.
How many miles will I get on one charge?
The estimated range is 40 to 70 miles per charge, depending on terrain, 4WD use, speed and load. Flat ground in 2WD reaches the upper end, while steep hills, mud and heavy cargo use more energy. For comparison, Bad Boy rated the Recoil at up to 40 miles on new lead-acid batteries.
How long does it take to charge?
The included 25A charger fully charges the battery from empty in approximately 6.8 hours (408 minutes). Partial charges are faster, so you can top up between a morning and evening hunt. The factory lead-acid setup typically takes 8 to 12 hours.
Can I use my original Bad Boy charger?
No. Factory lead-acid chargers use the wrong charging profile and will not charge a lithium battery correctly. The kit includes a 25A charger matched to the 87.6V full-charge voltage, and the Lithium Rhino warranty requires an approved charger.
Can I charge it in freezing weather?
Yes. The battery has self-heated charging. When the cells are below freezing, it warms them first and starts charging once they reach a safe temperature. It can be discharged in temperatures from -4°F to 131°F.
Is the battery waterproof? Can I drive through mud and water?
The battery is IP65 rated, which means it resists dust and water splashes from rain, mud and puddles. It is not designed to be submerged, so avoid deep water crossings and do not pressure wash the battery. Water intrusion is not covered by the warranty.
How much does it weigh compared to lead-acid batteries?
The battery weighs approximately 209 lb. A six-battery 72V lead-acid bank commonly weighs 300 to 500 lb, so most owners remove a significant amount of weight while gaining capacity.
Will my lights and 12V accessories still work?
Yes. The kit includes a 50A, 600W 12V reducer with a trigger wire that powers lights, radios and other 12V accessories directly from the battery. Mount it in a ventilated location.
Can I run a winch from this battery?
The included 12V reducer is designed for lights and accessories, not for winch loads. For a winch, use a separate 12V battery.
Do I need to modify my battery tray?
In most Bad Boy Buggies, you only need to remove the plastic dividers or battery tub that held the lead-acid batteries, so the battery sits on a flat surface. Measure your tray first: the battery is 20.7 x 17.9 x 12.6 in, plus its base mounting flanges.
Does it fit the Bad Boy Recoil iS?
The Recoil iS is a 72V vehicle, but it uses a nine 8V battery tray that differs from the Recoil. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm fit for your tray.
How long does installation take?
Most owners finish in 2 to 4 hours with basic hand tools. The kit includes all hardware, brackets, cables and a drill bit, and Lithium Rhino offers free remote install support by video call.
How do I check how much charge is left?
The included round color dash gauge shows voltage, state of charge, temperature and current draw. You can also use the free Lithium Rhino app over Bluetooth to see per-cell data and fault alerts on your phone.
Will my Bad Boy be faster with this battery?
The 76.8V nominal voltage is higher than a 72V lead-acid bank, and lithium holds its voltage as it discharges. Owners typically notice stronger acceleration and steadier speed through the whole charge. Top speed is still set by your controller and motor.
Should I choose the 76V 105Ah or the 76V 170Ah?
The 170Ah stores 13,056Wh, about 62% more energy than the 105Ah (8,064Wh). Choose the 170Ah for all-day or multi-day hunts, large properties, hilly terrain, heavy loads or frequent 4WD use. The 105Ah suits shorter outings on flatter ground.
What warranty does the Lithium Rhino 76V 170Ah have?
Lithium Rhino provides an 8-year limited warranty: full repair or replacement including shipping for the first 6 years, and a flat $500 in years 7 and 8. Kit components are covered for 2 years. Register within 120 days of purchase to activate full coverage.
How should I store the battery in the off-season?
Charge the battery before storage, then switch it off with the dash power button. Check the charge every few months and recharge as needed. Never store it fully discharged, and do not leave it more than 12 months without charging.
How long will the battery last?
The Grade A LiFePO4 cells are rated for 6,000+ charge cycles. Lead-acid golf cart batteries typically last a few hundred cycles, so one lithium pack can replace several sets of lead-acid batteries over its life.
Does it work with regenerative braking?
Yes. Bad Boy regenerative braking returns energy to the battery as it does with lead-acid, and the BMS includes pack over-voltage protection.
What do I do with my old lead-acid batteries?
Most auto parts stores and battery retailers recycle lead-acid batteries, and many pay scrap value for them. The included removal strap makes it easier to lift them out safely.
