Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

The Epoch 24V 230Ah V2 Elite Series (SKU: C24230A) is a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) deep-cycle battery engineered for 24-volt marine electrical systems. It is purpose-built for vessels that demand reliable, high-capacity onboard power from 24-volt trolling motor applications on fishing boats to full Victron Energy-based electrical systems on flybridge yachts, center consoles, and liveaboard vessels.

At 5.89 kWh of usable energy in a single Group 8D housing, this battery consolidates what traditionally required two separate 12-volt lead-acid batteries wired in series. One cable run. One battery to monitor. One battery to maintain. The result is a cleaner electrical installation with fewer connection points, lower internal resistance, and significantly more usable capacity than a comparable dual lead-acid bank.

"Ran my 24V 80 lb Minn Kota Terrova for 7 hours straight pulling my 20-foot boat against the current, with a fair chop, and calm flat water. The two Group 29 lead-acid batteries I replaced would have been completely discharged. The Epoch 24V 230Ah was only 25% discharged. 75% charge remaining."

— Customer review via Epoch Batteries, trolling motor application

"Installed two 24V 230Ah batteries on a 60-foot Azimuth Flybridge using a Victron inverter. Tested by putting a draw on them for over 7 hours and still had 35% remaining."

— Customer review via Epoch Batteries, large vessel installation

Customer experiences vary based on vessel type, motor settings, speed, water conditions, and load. Individual results will differ.

The V2 Elite includes three communication layers that set it apart from standard lithium batteries in the marine market. First, a CAN Bus harness connects directly to Victron GX devices Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, or Cerbo GX Mk2 enabling DVCC (Distributed Voltage and Current Control) and automated charge management without a separate battery monitor. Second, built-in Bluetooth pairs with the Epoch iOS and Android app for real-time monitoring from a phone or tablet. Third, a wired external battery gauge mounts anywhere on the vessel for at-a-glance state-of-charge visibility.

The housing is rated IP67 fully sealed against dust and waterproof to 1 meter of submersion for 30 minutes. An internal self-heating system activates automatically when the battery temperature drops below 0°C (32°F), allowing safe charging in cold-weather conditions down to -20°C (-4°F). This combination of waterproofing and cold-weather charging capability makes it suitable for year-round marine use in a range of climates.

The built-in Battery Management System handles overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and temperature protection. An internal T-class fuse provides additional cell-level protection. The V2 revision improves handling of high-voltage alarms compared to the original V1 in Victron-connected systems.

Physical dimensions and weight: This battery measures 20.9" L x 8.7" W x 12.1" H and weighs approximately 100 lb (45 kg). It is designed for Group 8D battery compartments. It does not fit Group 27 or Group 31 trays. Verify compartment dimensions before ordering. Mounting brackets are sold separately. Plan for a two-person installation or mechanical assistance.

The battery is certified to UL1973, UL1642, IEC 62133, and UN38.3. Epoch Batteries holds membership in ABYC, NMEA, NMMA, RVDA, and RVIA, supporting marine and recreational vehicle compliance environments. Purchased through an authorized reseller, this battery is covered by the full 11-year manufacturer warranty. For complete warranty terms, see our Warranty Tab.

Features

CAN Bus integration with Victron Energy GX devices

Includes the communication harness and RJ45 cables required to connect directly to Victron Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, and Cerbo GX Mk2 devices via the BMS CAN port. Once connected and DVCC enabled, the battery BMS communicates charge parameters automatically to the Victron system including absorption voltage, float voltage, and temperature-based charge limits. Live data including state of charge, voltage, current, and cell temperature appears directly on the Victron GX display and in the VRM portal. In compatible configurations, this replaces the function of a dedicated BMV-712 or SmartShunt battery monitor. Multiple units daisy-chain via RJ45 cables (black port out to next battery blue port in).

IP67 waterproof and dustproof housing

Fully sealed against dust and rated for temporary immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Suitable for open-boat environments, bilge-adjacent placement, splash zones, and saltwater marine use where moisture exposure occurs during normal operation.

Internal self-heating system for cold-weather charging

An integrated heating element activates automatically through the BMS when battery temperature drops below 0°C (32°F). The heater warms the cells to a safe charging threshold before allowing current to flow, preventing the lithium plating damage that permanently reduces capacity when lithium batteries are charged in freezing conditions. Rated charging range with heater active: -20°C to 55°C (-4°F to 131°F). No manual activation required.

230Ah capacity with high discharge output

Delivers 230A of continuous discharge current, a 500A peak for 30 seconds, and a 1,300A instantaneous peak for 1 second. Suitable for high-draw trolling motors, inverter loads on large vessels, and multi-circuit marine electrical systems. Usable capacity at 80% depth of discharge is approximately 184Ah compared to approximately 100–105Ah usable from a typical dual Group 29 lead-acid bank at 50% discharge.

Bluetooth monitoring via iOS and Android app

Built-in Bluetooth connects to the Epoch Batteries app at no additional cost. The app displays real-time state of charge, voltage, charge or discharge current, and cell temperature. Range is approximately 30 feet. Operates without Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Functions independently of the CAN Bus Victron integration both systems operate simultaneously.

Mountable external battery gauge

A wired LED battery gauge is included and can be mounted in any location on the vessel dash, helm station, or cabin for charge-level monitoring without a phone or screen. Connects directly to the battery via the included wiring harness.

Mountable ON/OFF isolation switch

An included isolation switch can be mounted remotely from the battery for system disconnect without physical access to the battery compartment. Useful for installations in deep or enclosed spaces.

Advanced BMS with internal T-class fuse

The Battery Management System provides continuous monitoring and protection against: overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, external short circuit, high temperature disconnect, and low temperature charge cutoff. An internal T-class fuse provides a secondary layer of overcurrent protection at the cell level that does not require replacement after a fault event unlike external blade or ANL fuses.

3,500+ rated cycle life at 80% depth of discharge

LiFePO4 chemistry delivers a long rated service life compared to lead-acid alternatives. At one full charge-discharge cycle per day, this battery is rated to retain above 80% of original capacity for over 9 years. Standard lead-acid deep-cycle batteries are typically rated for 200–500 cycles under equivalent conditions. The cost per cycle over the rated service life is substantially lower than periodic lead-acid replacement.

Parallel and series expandable bank

Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel (1S16P) for expanded capacity up to 3,680Ah at 24V in a single bank. Up to 2 batteries can be connected in series (2S1P) to build a 48V system. CAN Bus communication daisy-chains across all parallel units via RJ45, appearing as a single bank on the Victron GX display with total Ah calculated automatically.

Native 24V  no series wiring required

Operates at a true 25.6V nominal without requiring two 12V batteries wired in series. This eliminates a common failure point in marine electrical systems the inter-battery series connection and reduces the total number of cable terminations, connections, and components in the battery circuit.

UL certifications and marine industry memberships

Certified to UL1973, UL1642, IEC 62133, and UN38.3. Epoch Batteries is a member of ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council), NMEA, NMMA, RVDA, and RVIA. ABYC membership supports compliance with marine electrical system standards applicable to professional installations.

11-year manufacturer warranty

Purchased from an authorized reseller. This battery includes the full 11-year manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of purchase. Accessories carry a separate 1-year warranty. For complete terms and conditions, see our Warranty Tab.

Marine Systems

For large vessel installations

This battery is used in full marine electrical systems on vessels from 24-foot center consoles to 60-foot-plus flybridge yachts. The combination of CAN Bus Victron integration, IP67 housing, internal heating, and a high-capacity 230Ah rating in a single Group 8D unit makes it a practical choice for professional marine electrical installations where reliability and system integration matter.

"Installed two 24V 230Ah batteries on a 60-foot Azimuth Flybridge using a Victron inverter. Tested by putting a draw on them for over 7 hours and still had 35% remaining."

Victron DVCC setup

When connected to a Victron GX device via CAN Bus, DVCC (Distributed Voltage and Current Control) allows the battery BMS to communicate charge parameters directly to the Victron system. The BMS sets absorption voltage, float voltage, and maximum charge current automatically the Victron charge sources follow the BMS instructions rather than operating on fixed user-programmed settings.

Recommended manual fallback settings to program into your Multiplus or Quattro (used if CAN Bus communication is lost):

  • Absorption voltage: 28.4V (minimum 15 minutes per battery in the bank)
  • Float voltage: 27.0V
  • Bulk / max charge voltage: 29.2V
  • Max charge current: 230A per battery (115A recommended for everyday use)

During active DVCC operation, the inverter tile on the GX device will show "External Control" this is normal and confirms the BMS is managing the charge sources.

Multi-battery bank configuration

Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel at 24V. Daisy-chain the RJ45 CAN Bus cables from battery to battery (each battery's black port out connects to the next battery's blue port in). Plug the grey RJ45 cable from the final battery in the chain into the BMS CAN port on your Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, or compatible GX device.

The GX device will detect all connected batteries as a single bank and display the combined Ah and module count. Confirm the battery count shown matches the number of physical units installed.

Bank capacity reference:

  • 1 battery: 230Ah at 24V (5.89 kWh)
  • 2 batteries: 460Ah at 24V (11.78 kWh)
  • 4 batteries: 920Ah at 24V (23.55 kWh)
  • 6 batteries: 1,380Ah at 24V (35.33 kWh)
  • 8 batteries: 1,840Ah at 24V (47.10 kWh)
For trolling motor applications

On 24-volt trolling motor systems including Minn Kota Terrova, Ulterra, Riptide, PowerDrive, and MotorGuide Xi5 and X5 series this battery replaces a dual Group 29 or dual Group 31 lead-acid bank. Connect as a single 24V source using the same terminal positions you would use for the positive of battery one and the negative of battery two in a series lead-acid setup.

At 80% depth of discharge, this battery provides approximately 184Ah of usable capacity. A typical 80 lb thrust 24V trolling motor draws 40–55A at moderate speed, which corresponds to approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours of runtime at that draw rate. At lower trolling speeds (15–25A draw), runtime extends to 7–12 hours. Actual results vary based on vessel weight, current, wind, and motor speed settings.

Installation planning

At approximately 100 lb per unit, physical installation requires planning. Consider the following before purchasing:

  • Verify your battery compartment measures at minimum 21" L x 9" W x 13" H per battery
  • Plan for a two-person lift or mechanical assistance (pallet jack, lifting strap, or battery carrier)
  • Mounting brackets are sold separately order them in advance of installation
  • Use appropriately rated marine cable for the discharge current 2/0 AWG minimum for runs up to 48 inches at full rated current
  • Install a properly rated ANL fuse or MRBF terminal fuse at the battery positive terminal per ABYC standards

FAQ

Yes. Two 12V batteries wired in series produce 24V. This battery is a single 24V unit that replaces that entire dual-battery bank. Connect it the same way positive terminal to your motor's positive lead, negative to negative without any series wiring between two separate batteries.

In terms of usable capacity: two Group 29 lead-acid batteries typically rated between 90–115Ah give you roughly half that capacity as usable energy when limited to 50% depth of discharge to protect longevity. This LiFePO4 battery provides approximately 184Ah of usable capacity at 80% depth of discharge, with the option to go deeper when needed.

Runtime depends on motor thrust rating, speed setting, vessel weight, current, and wind. One customer running a 24V 80 lb thrust Minn Kota Terrova for 7 continuous hours in mixed conditions current, chop, and flat water reported 75% of charge remaining at the end of the day. This is one customer's experience and results will vary based on conditions.

As a general estimate: a 24V 80 lb thrust motor draws approximately 40–55A at moderate speed and 15–25A at low trolling speed. At 50A average draw, this battery provides approximately 4.5 hours of runtime. At 20A average draw, approximately 11 hours. These are estimates your conditions will determine actual results.

This battery measures 20.9 inches long, 8.7 inches wide, and 12.1 inches tall. It fits a standard Group 8D battery tray or compartment. It will not fit in a Group 27 or Group 31 tray those are smaller.

Measure your compartment before ordering. You need at minimum 21 inches of length, 9 inches of width, and 13 inches of height, plus clearance for terminal connections and cable routing. Mounting brackets are sold separately and should be ordered at the same time as the battery.

Weight is approximately 100 lb. Plan for a two-person installation or use a battery carrier or lifting strap.

The battery includes all required communication cables. Follow this sequence:

  • For a single battery: plug the grey RJ45 cable into the battery's BMS CAN port and the other end into the BMS CAN port on your Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX. On a Cerbo GX Mk2, use VE-CAN1 or VE-CAN2 and change the port profile to CAN-bus BMS in the GX settings menu.
  • For multiple batteries in parallel: daisy-chain each battery using the RJ45 cables (each battery's black port out connects to the next battery's blue port in). Connect the grey cable from the last battery in the chain to the GX device.
  • In the GX device: enable DVCC, set the controlling BMS to Epoch, set the battery monitor to Epoch.
  • Confirm setup: the GX device list should show the Epoch battery or bank with the correct module count and total Ah.
  • Also program manual fallback parameters into your Multiplus or Quattro: absorption 28.4V, float 27.0V, bulk 29.2V, in case CAN communication is interrupted.

During normal DVCC operation, the inverter tile will display "External Control" this is expected and confirms the BMS is managing charge sources.

Only if your charger can be programmed for LiFePO4 chemistry at 24V. The required settings are: absorption voltage 28.4V, float voltage 27.0V, bulk voltage 29.2V, maximum charge current 230A (115A recommended).

Do not use a charger set to a lead-acid, AGM, or gel profile. Those profiles use different voltage targets that will either overcharge or undercharge a LiFePO4 battery over time. Most modern multi-chemistry marine chargers including models from ProMariner, NOCO Genius, and Victron Energy have a LiFePO4 mode that can be programmed to these parameters.

If your current charger does not support LiFePO4, it will need to be replaced or supplemented with a compatible unit. Contact us for charger recommendations compatible with this battery.

Yes. The internal self-heating system activates automatically when battery temperature drops below 0°C (32°F). The heater warms the cells to a safe level before allowing the BMS to permit charging current. You do not need to manually activate the heater.

The rated charging temperature range with the heater active is -20°C to 55°C (-4°F to 131°F). Without the internal heater as is the case with many standard lithium batteries charging below 0°C causes lithium plating inside the cells, which permanently reduces capacity and cannot be reversed. The integrated heater in this battery prevents that damage.

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is considered one of the thermally stable lithium chemistries. Unlike lithium cobalt oxide used in some consumer electronics, LiFePO4 does not enter thermal runaway under normal operating conditions and does not produce flammable hydrogen gas during charging the way flooded lead-acid batteries do.

The IP67-sealed housing prevents moisture ingress in wet environments. The BMS provides overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and temperature protection at the cell level.

Follow ABYC marine electrical standards for cable sizing, fusing at the battery terminal, and mechanical securing of the battery against movement. The battery's UL1973 certification supports compliance with marine installation requirements.

Yes. Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel at 24V, expanding total bank capacity up to 3,680Ah. Up to 2 batteries can be connected in series to build a 48V system.

For Victron-connected parallel banks: daisy-chain the RJ45 CAN Bus cables between batteries and connect the final grey cable to your GX device. The GX system will display all batteries as a single bank and calculate total Ah automatically.

Do not mix this battery with other brands, chemistries, or different models in the same bank. All batteries in a parallel bank should be the same model, same age, and at the same state of charge before connecting.

The upfront purchase price is higher than a comparable lead-acid setup. However, lead-acid deep-cycle batteries are typically rated for 200–500 cycles before meaningful capacity loss. At one cycle per weekend fishing trip roughly 26 cycles per season a lead-acid bank may need replacement every 2 to 4 years.

This battery is rated for 3,500+ cycles at 80% depth of discharge. At 26 cycles per season, that represents well over a decade of rated cycle life. At one cycle per day in a continuous marine application, it is rated for over 9 years before capacity drops below 80% of original.

Dividing the purchase price by rated cycle life produces a cost-per-cycle that is substantially lower than replacing lead-acid batteries on a regular schedule. The 11-year manufacturer warranty provides additional coverage not available with lead-acid alternatives.

This battery is sold by an authorized dealer. The full 11-year manufacturer warranty covers manufacturing defects from the date of purchase. Accessories chargers, gauges, cables, switches carry a separate 1-year warranty.

The warranty does not cover physical damage from improper installation or handling, damage from charging with non-LiFePO4 profiles, or use outside the specified operating parameters. Keep your original purchase receipt. For complete warranty terms and how to make a claim, see our Warranty Tab.

No ongoing maintenance is required. LiFePO4 batteries do not need watering, equalization charges, or periodic full discharge cycles. The BMS manages cell balancing automatically during normal charge cycles.

For seasonal storage: store the battery at 50–80% state of charge in a location within the storage temperature range of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F). LiFePO4 self-discharge is approximately 1–3% per month a battery stored at 80% charge before an off-season will retain most of that charge through several months of storage. Avoid storing fully discharged.

The built-in Bluetooth module connects to the Epoch Batteries app available free for iOS and Android. The app displays real-time state of charge (percentage), voltage, current (charge or discharge amperage), and cell temperature. Bluetooth range is approximately 30 feet. No Wi-Fi or cellular connection is required.

The Bluetooth monitoring system operates independently of the CAN Bus Victron integration. Both systems function simultaneously you can view battery data on the Victron GX display and on your phone at the same time.

An external wired battery gauge is also included and can be mounted at the helm or anywhere on the vessel for charge-level visibility without a phone.

For a typical day of fishing, 230Ah provides more capacity than most users will draw in a single outing. Customers consistently report finishing full days on the water with significant charge remaining. Whether this is more than needed depends on your situation.

The practical advantages of the higher capacity are: no concern about running low during a long day, the ability to fish multiple consecutive days without shore power, and a reserve buffer for situations where charging is not available. The tradeoffs are physical size (Group 8D footprint) and approximately 100 lb of weight per battery.

If your battery compartment is smaller than Group 8D or weight is a primary concern, a lower-capacity 24V option may be a better fit. Contact us for guidance on sizing for your specific vessel and use pattern.

No. Lithium batteries of this capacity are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods under PI 965 Section IA. Ground shipping only passenger and cargo air freight is not permitted for batteries in this class.

Cable sizing depends on the maximum current draw of your system and the length of the cable run. As a starting reference for marine installations at full rated discharge current:

  • Up to 48 inches of cable run at 230A: 2/0 AWG marine-grade tinned copper cable minimum
  • Longer runs or higher sustained current: 3/0 or 4/0 AWG may be appropriate

Install an appropriately rated fuse or circuit breaker as close to the battery positive terminal as practical within 7 inches per ABYC E-11 standards for ungrounded conductors. Suitable overcurrent protection devices include ANL fuses, MRBF terminal fuses, or Class T fuses rated for the expected maximum current.

Use marine-grade tinned copper cable for all battery connections in saltwater environments. Untinned copper corrodes significantly faster in marine conditions. Consult the ABYC E-11 standard or a certified marine electrician for installation specifications specific to your vessel.

The V2 Elite is the current production model. The primary improvement over the V1 is refined handling of high-voltage alarm events in Victron CAN Bus-connected systems the V2 manages these alerts more accurately, reducing false alarms during normal charging cycles that some V1 users experienced in Victron DVCC configurations. The V2 also incorporates general BMS firmware refinements. If you are building or upgrading a Victron-based system, the V2 is the current recommended version.
