Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

The Epoch 12V 460Ah V2 Elite Series (SKU: C12460A) is a 12-volt, 460 amp-hour lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) deep-cycle battery designed for large-format RV, marine, and off-grid energy systems. With 5,888 watt-hours of stored energy in a Group 8D footprint, it consolidates the capacity of multiple smaller batteries into a single sealed, maintenance-free unit.

This is the second-generation V2 release, which includes significant upgrades over the original model: refined Victron CAN Bus communication, expanded parallel capability from 4 to 16 units, over-the-air BMS firmware updates, an improved battery gauge with real-time state-of-charge display, and a Bluetooth module repositioned into the external gauge panel for better wireless range in larger installations.

The battery is built around prismatic LiFePO4 cells in a 4S2P configuration and is enclosed in a flame-retardant PC + ABS case rated UL 94 V-0. An IP67 seal protects against dust and water submersion. An integrated self-heating system allows charging in temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C).

For RV and Boondocking Use

A single 460Ah battery provides enough capacity to power a 12-volt compressor refrigerator, interior lighting, fans, and moderate inverter loads through a full night and into the following day without shore power or a generator. Users running Grand Design, Airstream, Tiffin, and Newmar rigs report multi-day boondocking stays on a single battery with limited solar input.

The battery accepts up to 230 amps of continuous charge current, which shortens recharge time significantly compared to AGM banks. The 500-amp 30-second peak and 1,300-amp 1-second peak discharge ratings provide enough cranking power to start onboard generators and operate hydraulic leveling systems.

For Marine Use

The IP67 enclosure makes this battery suitable for installation in marine bilge areas, wet engine rooms, and deck compartments where moisture and splashing are routine. The internal fuse carries a 50,000-amp interruption rating, which satisfies ABYC requirements for high-current protection without requiring an external Class T fuse in most installations.

A pair of these batteries in parallel delivers 920Ah and approximately 11.8kWh of usable energy equivalent in storage to five or six large 8D AGM batteries at a fraction of the weight and in a significantly smaller footprint. The battery is vibration-resistant and rated for the thermal and mechanical demands of marine operation.

For Off-Grid and Solar Storage

Up to 16 units connect in parallel for a maximum bank of 7,360Ah on a single 12V system suitable for off-grid cabins, outbuildings, and small residential backup installations. Up to four units connect in series for 24V, 36V, or 48V configurations. The system is expandable over time: start with one battery and add units as needs grow, using the included CAN Bus cables and DIP switch guide.

Note on UL Listing: Component certifications include UL1642 (cells), UL1973 (pack), UL9540A (fire), and UL60691 (fuse). A full UL Listing for the assembled battery was in process at time of publication. Verify current certification status with the manufacturer for installations requiring a complete UL-listed assembly.

Features

LiFePO4 Chemistry

Lithium iron phosphate is a stable, thermally safe chemistry that does not use liquid electrolyte and does not produce the thermal runaway events associated with other lithium chemistries. It supports deep cycling, regularly discharging to 20% state of charge, without the accelerated degradation that affects AGM and gel batteries under similar conditions. Rated for a minimum of 3,000 charge cycles.

Integrated Self-Heating System

An internal heater activates automatically when battery temperature drops below 32°F (0°C), warming the cells to a safe charging range. This allows charging in ambient temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C). Discharge remains functional down to -4°F (-20°C) without heater activation. This feature is relevant for winter RV camping, cold-weather marine operation, and northern off-grid installations where temperatures fall below freezing overnight.

IP67 Sealed Enclosure

The battery case is rated IP67 fully sealed against dust and capable of withstanding submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. The case material is a PC + ABS blend with a UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant rating. This makes the battery suitable for marine bilge installation, outdoor off-grid enclosures, and humid environments where conventional battery housings would be at risk.

Bluetooth Monitoring via iOS and Android App

The Epoch Li-Ion app (available on the App Store and Google Play) connects to the battery via Bluetooth and displays real-time state of charge percentage, total voltage, current flow in and out, remaining amp-hours, individual cell voltages, cell temperatures, and alarm status. Historical data voltage, current, state of charge, capacity, and temperature is stored and viewable over custom time frames. The Bluetooth module in the V2 is located in the external gauge panel rather than inside the sealed case, improving wireless range in large RVs and boats.

Victron CAN Bus Integration

The battery communicates natively with Victron GX devices (Cerbo GX, Venus GX, and compatible units) via the VE.CAN port using CAN Bus protocol at 500 kbps. When DVCC is enabled and the controlling BMS is set to Epoch in the GX device settings, the battery automatically manages absorption voltage (14.2V), absorption time, and float voltage (13.5V). The integrated shunt allows the battery to function as the system battery monitor in single-battery installations, which may eliminate the need for a separate SmartShunt or BMV-712. The V2 release specifically addresses high-voltage alarm handling that caused inaccurate readings in the original model.

Over-the-Air BMS Firmware Updates

The battery management system firmware updates wirelessly through the Epoch Li-Ion app. No cables, no computer, and no technician visit are required. Updates are downloaded and installed while the battery is powered on and connected via Bluetooth. This ensures the BMS continues to receive performance and reliability improvements after purchase.

Upgraded Battery Gauge Panel

The included external gauge panel displays state of charge percentage, voltage, current flow, and alarm alerts. This is a significant improvement over the 10-segment LED bar gauge on the original model. The gauge mounts remotely the battery includes a panel-mountable remote ON/OFF switch on an approximately 10-foot cable, allowing installation in a compartment while the gauge and switch are accessible from the living area or helm.

Built-In Smart Battery Management System (BMS)

The integrated BMS monitors and protects the battery continuously. Protections include overcharge cutoff at 3.65V per cell (14.6V total), over-discharge cutoff at 2.70V per cell, overcurrent protection at 400A with a 5-second delay, discharge overcurrent at 550A, short-circuit protection at 1,200A, and high and low temperature disconnects on both charge and discharge. The BMS also manages cell balancing to maintain uniform capacity across all cells.

Scalable Parallel and Series Configuration

Up to 16 batteries connect in parallel at 12V for a maximum capacity of 7,360Ah. Up to 4 batteries connect in series for 24V, 36V, or 48V systems. The V2 release expanded parallel capability from the original limit of 4 batteries. All configurations are monitored from a single dashboard in the Epoch Li-Ion app. CAN Bus cables and DIP switch settings for every configuration are included with the battery.

Internal Fuse with High Interruption Rating

A 400-amp rated internal fuse with a transient overload capacity of 1,200 amps at 3 seconds and an arc interruption rating of 50,000 amps is installed inside the battery. This meets ABYC requirements for high-current protection in marine installations. The fuse is UL60691 certified.

Low Self-Discharge

Self-discharge rate is less than 3% per month. A battery stored at 50% or higher charge and kept in a temperature range of 32–95°F will retain adequate charge for up to one year without a maintenance charge.

Applications

RV and Motorhome Power Systems

The C12460A fits in a standard Group 8D battery compartment and is a direct-fit replacement for multiple smaller AGM or lithium batteries. A single battery powers 12-volt compressor refrigerators, LED lighting, water pumps, diesel heaters, CPAP machines, and moderate inverter loads for extended periods without shore power. The battery's 230-amp continuous discharge supports inverters up to approximately 2,600 to 2,900 watts depending on inverter efficiency, and its 500-amp 30-second peak handles the inrush current of generator start sequences and hydraulic slide and leveler systems.

Typical RV installations include single-battery setups replacing 2 to 4 AGM group 27, 31, or 8D batteries, or parallel banks of 2 to 4 units for full-time RVers running larger loads. The self-heating feature supports year-round use including winter camping in temperatures below freezing.

Marine House Banks

The IP67 rating and vibration-resistant construction make this battery suitable for installation in marine bilge areas, battery compartments adjacent to the waterline, and engine rooms where condensation and splashing occur. Two batteries in parallel deliver 920Ah sufficient house bank capacity for extended offshore passages or liveaboard use running refrigeration, autopilot, navigation electronics, and interior lighting.

The internal fuse satisfies ABYC protection requirements in most configurations. The native Victron CAN Bus integration is compatible with Victron-based marine electrical systems commonly found on trawlers, sailboats, and powerboats, including installations using Multiplus, Quattro, and Cerbo GX equipment.

The 1,300-amp 1-second peak discharge supports windlass, bow thruster, and engine start applications where high instantaneous current demand is a requirement.

Off-Grid Cabins and Remote Installations

A bank of four 460Ah batteries in parallel delivers 1,840Ah at 12V enough storage for small cabins running LED lighting, a chest refrigerator, water pump, and basic electronics through 2 to 3 days of cloudy weather before requiring a generator or solar recharge. Larger installations scale to 16 batteries and 94kWh. The self-heating system protects cell integrity in remote northern installations where battery compartments may reach sub-freezing temperatures overnight.

Solar Energy Storage

LiFePO4 chemistry accepts charge efficiently across a wide input current range. The battery charges at up to 230 amps continuous from solar MPPT controllers, generator-driven chargers, or shore power inverter-chargers. The Victron CAN Bus integration enables DVCC-based charge control when paired with compatible Victron solar charge controllers, allowing the battery to communicate its state directly to the charging source.

Backup Power

The battery's low self-discharge rate (under 3% per month) and stable resting voltage make it suitable as a standby backup power source for critical residential or commercial equipment. A single 460Ah battery at 12V provides approximately 5.8kWh of available energy enough to power a standard household refrigerator for approximately 48 to 72 hours or support critical medical equipment, lighting, and communication devices during an extended outage.

Charging Guide

Recommended Charge Settings

Use the following parameters when programming a charger, inverter-charger, or solar charge controller manually. These settings apply to a single battery or a parallel bank of multiple batteries at 12V nominal.

Parameter Recommended Value
Bulk / Absorption Voltage 14.2V
Absorption End Condition 15 to 30 minutes (minimum 15 minutes per battery)
Float Voltage 13.5V
Re-bulk Voltage 13.3V
Maximum Charge Voltage 14.6V (BMS hard cutoff)
Equalization Disabled
Temperature Compensation Disabled (0 mV per degree C)
Recommended Charge Rate 0.2C to 0.5C (approximately 92A to 230A)
Maximum Continuous Charge 230A
Maximum Peak Charge (5 seconds) 400A

Victron System Setup (DVCC)

When connecting to a Victron GX device via CAN Bus, the battery communicates its charge parameters automatically. Follow these steps for proper configuration:

  • Connect the included CAN Bus cable from the battery Victron port to the BMS-CAN or VE.CAN port on the GX device.
  • In the GX device, navigate to Settings, then Services, then VE.CAN and set the port speed to 500 kbps.
  • Enable DVCC in the GX device settings.
  • Set the controlling BMS to Epoch.
  • Set the battery monitor source to Epoch.
  • The system will automatically use 14.2V absorption with a minimum 15-minute absorption time per battery and 13.5V float.
  • It is also recommended to manually program these same values in any Multiplus, Quattro, or other charge sources as a fallback in the event of CAN Bus communication loss.
Important: Always disable equalization mode on any charger connected to this battery. Equalization voltages exceed the BMS high-voltage cutoff and will trigger a protection shutdown.

Compatible Charger Types

  • Chargers with a dedicated LiFePO4 charge profile set to the voltages above
  • Victron Multiplus and Quattro inverter-chargers (with correct profile programmed or DVCC active)
  • Victron SmartSolar and BlueSolar MPPT charge controllers (LiFePO4 profile or user-defined)
  • Any MPPT solar charge controller with a programmable lithium or custom voltage profile
  • DC-to-DC chargers (such as the Victron Orion XS) for alternator charging recommended to protect the alternator from the battery's high charge acceptance rate

Charging Below Freezing

The integrated self-heater activates automatically when the battery temperature falls below 32°F (0°C). This allows safe charging in ambient temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C). Do not attempt to force charging below the BMS temperature protection threshold without the self-heater active, as charging lithium cells below freezing causes permanent capacity loss.

Initial Charge Before First Use

Perform a full charge to 14.2V with an appropriate LiFePO4 charger before placing the battery into service. This confirms cell state and allows the BMS to calibrate its state-of-charge reading.

State-of-Charge Recalibration

The battery recalibrates its state-of-charge reading when charged to the maximum voltage of 14.6V manually, or automatically when operating under Victron CAN Bus communications using the custom algorithm. If the SOC reading drifts over time, performing a full charge to 14.6V will reset the reading to 100%.

  • Multiplus and Multiplus II inverter-chargers (charge profile via DVCC or manual programming)
  • Quattro and Quattro II inverter-chargers
  • SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers (LiFePO4 or user-defined profile)
  • BlueSolar MPPT charge controllers (user-defined profile)
Note on Victron CAN Bus: Proper operation of the CAN Bus integration requires correct DIP switch configuration on the battery and correct port speed setting (500 kbps) on the GX device. Refer to the Connection Guide in the user manual. In complex multi-battery Victron installations, it is recommended to verify communication stability before full deployment. The V2 model specifically addresses the high-voltage alarm handling issues reported with the original model.

Battery Mixing

Do not connect this battery in series or parallel with batteries of a different brand, voltage, capacity, or chemistry. Mixing batteries in a bank causes uneven charging, accelerated degradation, and potential BMS conflicts. All batteries in a bank should be the same model, purchased at the same time when possible, and at the same state of charge before connection.

Physical Fit | Group 8D

The battery measures 20.75 inches long, 8.5 inches wide, and 12 inches tall. It fits standard Group 8D battery trays and boxes. Note that this battery is approximately 0.5 to 1 inch taller than some older Group 8D AGM batteries. Verify vertical clearance in your battery compartment before ordering. Weight is 97 lbs verify that your battery tray or mounting surface is rated for this load.

FAQs

The C12460A measures 20.75 inches long, 8.5 inches wide, and 12 inches tall, and weighs 97 lbs. It fits standard Group 8D trays. However, this battery is slightly taller than some older 8D AGM models. Measure your compartment's vertical clearance before ordering. Also confirm that your battery tray or mounting structure can support 97 lbs.
Factory RV converters and AGM-only chargers typically use charge profiles that are incompatible with LiFePO4 batteries. They may undercharge the battery, fail to reach absorption voltage, or not recognize the battery at all. A charger with a dedicated LiFePO4 profile or a Victron inverter-charger programmed to 14.2V absorption and 13.5V float is required for reliable and complete charging. Upgrading the charger when switching from AGM to lithium is strongly recommended.
Connect the included CAN Bus cable from the battery's Victron port to the BMS-CAN or VE.CAN port on your Cerbo GX or other compatible Victron GX device. Set the VE.CAN port speed to 500 kbps in the GX device settings. Then enable DVCC, set the controlling BMS to Epoch, and set the battery monitor to Epoch. The battery will automatically communicate its state of charge, voltage, cell data, and alarms to the GX device and manage the charge profile. A Victron GX device is required this integration does not work with non-Victron inverter-chargers.
In a single-battery installation with CAN Bus connected to a Victron GX device, the battery's integrated shunt communicates state of charge directly to the GX device and can serve as the system battery monitor. This may eliminate the need for a separate SmartShunt or BMV-712. In multi-battery or complex systems, verify with your installer whether a separate shunt is still required for your specific configuration.
Discharge is rated down to -4°F (-20°C) without the heater active. The integrated self-heating system activates automatically when the battery temperature falls to 32°F (0°C), allowing safe charging in ambient temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C). Do not attempt to force charging below the BMS temperature cutoff without the heater active charging lithium cells at sub-freezing temperatures without heating causes permanent capacity loss.
Up to 16 batteries can be connected in parallel at 12V, for a maximum bank of 7,360Ah. Up to 4 batteries can be connected in series 2 for 24V, 3 for 36V, 4 for 48V while maintaining 460Ah capacity. Each configuration requires specific DIP switch settings, which are documented in the included user manual. For parallel configurations of 3 or more batteries, a bus bar system is recommended over daisy-chaining for uniform current distribution.
Yes. The battery is rated for 500 amps continuous for 30 seconds and 1,300 amps for 1 second. This peak output is sufficient to start most onboard generators and to operate windlasses, bow thrusters, and hydraulic leveling systems that require high instantaneous current. However, this battery is primarily a deep-cycle house battery for high-demand engine start applications on large diesel engines, consult with a marine electrician regarding whether a dedicated start battery is also appropriate for your installation.
The battery carries an IP67 ingress protection rating, meaning it is fully sealed against dust and rated for submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. The case material is a PC + ABS blend with a UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant rating. This makes the battery suitable for marine bilge installation and other wet environments where conventional battery housings are at risk. Terminals should still be protected with appropriate marine-grade terminal covers and corrosion inhibitor.
Download the Epoch Li-Ion app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Open the app, navigate to the Bluetooth tab, and tap the toggle next to your battery it will appear as C12460A followed by its serial number. The Dashboard shows state of charge percentage, total voltage, current flow, and remaining amp-hours. The Cells page shows individual cell voltages and temperatures. The History section displays graphs of voltage, current, SOC, capacity, and temperature over custom time frames. The app also provides access to OTA firmware updates and direct contact with Epoch support. Bluetooth range is approximately 30 feet (10 meters).
With the battery powered on and connected to the Epoch Li-Ion app via Bluetooth, navigate to the About page and select OTA. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update. Do not disconnect or power off the battery during the update process. Updates improve BMS performance, communication accuracy, and feature functionality over the life of the battery.
LiFePO4 chemistry does not use liquid electrolyte, so the battery is not at risk of leakage when oriented on its side. Epoch states that side mounting is generally acceptable. However, upright installation is recommended by the manufacturer for optimal performance and to maintain compliance with any applicable installation regulations. Always follow local electrical codes and manufacturer installation guidelines.
This battery accepts charge at up to 230 amps continuous, which can demand more sustained current than most standard vehicle or marine alternators are designed to provide. Connecting a large lithium battery directly to an alternator without current limiting can overheat and damage the alternator. A DC-to-DC charger such as the Victron Orion XS installed between the alternator and the lithium battery is strongly recommended. It limits charge current to a safe level for the alternator while still charging the lithium battery efficiently.
Runtime depends entirely on your load. A 12-volt compressor refrigerator draws approximately 4 to 6 amps on average roughly 60 to 90Ah over 12 hours. LED lighting, a water pump, phone charging, and a diesel heater fan might add another 20 to 40Ah. At a total draw of 100Ah per night, a single 460Ah battery provides approximately 3.5 to 4 nights of use before reaching the recommended 20% state-of-charge floor. High-draw loads such as residential-style air conditioning require significantly more capacity and typically require 2 or more batteries plus adequate solar or charging input.
Self-discharge is less than 3% per month when the BMS is powered off (standby draw is 200 microamps). For storage up to one month, any temperature between -4°F and 113°F is acceptable. For storage up to one year, keep the battery in a 32°F to 95°F environment and maintain at least 50% state of charge. Recharge periodically if stored for more than one month.
Component certifications include UL1642 for the cells, UL1973 for the battery pack, UL9540A for fire safety in energy storage systems, and UL60691 for the internal fuse. International certifications include IEC 62619:2022, CE, and RoHS. The battery ships under UN 3480, Class 9 hazardous materials classification. The V2 Elite (C12460A) includes the following improvements over the original model: refined Victron CAN Bus communication with corrected high-voltage alarm handling; expanded parallel capability from 4 to 16 batteries; over-the-air BMS firmware updates via the Epoch Li-Ion app; an upgraded battery gauge panel showing SOC percentage, voltage, current flow, and alarm alerts (replacing the original 10-segment LED bar); improved Bluetooth range due to relocation of the module to the external gauge; improved ammeter threshold of 0.4 amps (versus 1.4 amps on the V1) for more accurate state-of-charge tracking; and a UL60691-certified internal fuse. The V2 also supports monitoring all connected batteries from a single app dashboard.
SOC drift can occur over time, particularly after partial charge cycles or if the battery has not been fully charged recently. To recalibrate, charge the battery to the maximum voltage of 14.6V using a manual charge cycle, or allow the system to complete a full absorption cycle. When operating under Victron CAN Bus communications, the battery uses a custom SOC algorithm that recalibrates automatically. If using the Epoch Li-Ion app, check for a firmware update via the OTA section updates may include improvements to SOC accuracy.
Yes, and it is one of the most common upgrade paths for this battery. Two 100Ah batteries provide 200Ah of total capacity. Replacing them with a single 460Ah battery more than doubles your usable storage in the same or similar footprint, simplifies your wiring, and reduces the number of components requiring maintenance. Verify that your battery compartment can accommodate the Group 8D dimensions (20.75" L x 8.5" W x 12" H) and the 97-lb weight before ordering.
