Need Help?

Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

If you run a 24V trolling motor and only have room for one battery, this is the battery built for that problem. The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah is a single 24-volt LiFePO4 battery in a Group 24 case that replaces two 12V batteries wired in series, one battery, one slot, 24 volts out.

Dakota Lithium built it for technical skiffs, mid-size bass boats, and 24V trolling motors in smaller rigs, where run time and weight matter most. At 24.9 lbs, it removes the series jumper cable, the two-bank charger, and the mismatched-pair problem that comes with running a lead-acid pair. It also frees up a battery compartment you can use for something else.

Because it's LiFePO4, you get consistent power for all 60 amp hours. Dakota Lithium batteries have a flat voltage curve, which means steady power output as the battery discharges the power output does not dramatically drop off like a similar-sized SLA battery does at the end of the day.

It's rated for 5,000–8,000 recharge cycles (8–10 years at regular use) and backed by Dakota Lithium's 11-year manufacturer defect warranty. Beyond trolling motors, it can be linked in series or parallel for solar energy storage in the home, RV, boat, or off-grid applications, and Dakota Lithium 24V batteries can be used in series for up to 48V systems.

This is a deep cycle battery. It is not designed for engine starting, and it does not have internal heating. Check the Fitment tab before ordering.

Key Features

  • Single-battery 24V design: One battery delivers 24 volts, so there's no series wiring, no jumper cable, and no second battery to match.

Simpler install, fewer connections to corrode or fail.

  • Group 24 case, 24.9 lbs 9.1"L x 6.8"W x 8.66"H in a compact Group 24 footprint.

Drops into a standard Group 24 tray and takes real weight off the bow of a skiff or aluminum boat.

  • 1,536 Wh of usable energy 60Ah at 24V rated (26.6V resting).

Full capacity is usable, unlike lead-acid where discharging past 50% damages the battery.

  • Flat voltage curve, Steady power output as the battery discharges.

Your motor holds power at hour six the same as hour one no fade at the end of the day.

  • 80A max continuous discharge, 100A max pulse (10 second).

Headroom for the amp draw of a 24V trolling motor under load.

  • 5,000 - 8,000 recharge cycles Up to 80% capacity for 5,000 cycles in recommended conditions, versus roughly 500 cycles for a typical SLA.

8 - 10 years at regular use, so the cost per use is a fraction of a lead-acid battery you replace every 2 - 3 seasons.

  • Active BMS protection, Cell balancing, low voltage cutoff, high voltage cutoff, short circuit protection, and high temperature protection.

The battery protects itself, which extends its life.

  • Compatible with onboard charging, Accepts up to 80A max charge current, so it works with a LiFePO4 onboard charger mounted in the boat.

Leave the battery in the boat and plug the boat in no pulling 25 lbs out of the compartment after every trip.

  • M8 bolt terminals, Max torque 15 ft-lbs.

Easy to adapt to ring terminals and standard trolling motor wiring.

  • Series-capable to 48V: Dakota Lithium 24V batteries can be used in series for up to 48V systems.

One battery today, a 48V bank later if your setup changes.

  • Maintenance-free LiFePO4: No watering, no acid, no off-gassing, and it can be mounted in any orientation.

    Install it and forget it.

  • 11-year warranty: Dakota Lithium's manufacturer defect warranty.

Coverage that outlasts most boats' ownership cycle.

  • Certified and tested: UN 38 certified. Cells are UL1642 certified and tested per IEC62133 standards. Dakota Lithium is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Meets US and international regulations for air, ground, train, and marine transport.

Fitment

Dakota Lithium recommends this battery for technical skiffs, mid-size bass boats, small boats, skiffs, and kayaks running 24V trolling motors, plus 24V solar energy storage.

Trolling motor sizing - Dakota Lithium's pro staff recommendations:

Motor Thrust Max Amp Draw @ Voltage Recommended Battery
70 lb 42A @ 24V 24V Single (this battery), or DL 54 x2, or DL+ 60 x2, or DL 100 x2
80 lb 56A @ 24V DL+ 60 x2, or DL 100 x2, or DL+ 320 x2

How much capacity do you need? Dakota Lithium's guidance:

  • 60 amp hours is right if you rarely run your motor at max power. A 60Ah battery will give you a full day of run time.
  • Step up to 100Ah or more if you run at max power often, use spot lock often, or regularly fish in heavy current.
  • Step up to 100Ah or more if you have a pontoon boat or a boat holding lots of people.
  • Step up to 100Ah or more if your definition of a fishing day is before sunrise to after sunset.

Recommended applications

  • 24V trolling motors on technical skiffs and flats boats
  • 24V trolling motors on mid-size bass boats
  • Small aluminum boats, jon boats, and kayaks
  • Deep cycle marine applications where you need power for a long time
  • Solar energy storage in the home, RV, boat, or off-grid applications
  • 24V house power, linked in series or parallel for larger banks
  • 48V systems, using two batteries in series

This battery is not for:

  • Engine starting. Dakota Lithium's standard deep cycle packs do not have cranking ability and cannot be used for starting motors. For engine starting, look at the Dakota Lithium DL+ Dual Purpose line or the LTO Automotive Cranking battery.
  • Cold-weather charging. This model does not have internal heating. Avoid charging below 32°F.
  • Submersion. The case is rugged and waterproof, but enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, do not submerse the battery.

FAQs

Yes. The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah is a single 24-volt battery, so it powers a 24V trolling motor on its own with no second battery and no series wiring. Dakota Lithium recommends it for 24V trolling motors on technical skiffs, mid-size bass boats, and smaller rigs. It delivers 80A max continuous discharge and 60 amp hours of usable capacity.

Yes. A 24V trolling motor normally requires two 12V batteries wired in series. The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah delivers 24 volts from one battery, which eliminates the series jumper cable, the second battery tray, and the two-bank charger. It weighs 24.9 lbs and fits a Group 24 footprint.

Dakota Lithium's pro staff recommends the 24V Single for a 70 lb thrust 24V trolling motor, which has a max amp draw of 42A. For an 80 lb thrust 24V motor with a 56A max draw, Dakota Lithium recommends a higher-capacity option such as two DL+ 60Ah or two DL 100Ah batteries in series.

Capacity guidance from Dakota Lithium: 60 amp hours is right if you rarely run your motor at max power. If you run at max power often, use spot lock often, fish in heavy current, run a pontoon boat, or fish from before sunrise to after sunset, Dakota Lithium recommends 100 amp hours or more.

The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah is housed in a compact Group 24 case measuring 9.1"L x 6.8"W x 8.66"H (230mm x 174mm x 215mm). Height is 210mm to the top of the battery and 215mm to the top of the terminal. Measure your compartment before ordering, and note that it can be mounted in any orientation.

Run time depends on your motor's actual amp draw, which changes with boat weight, wind, current, and speed setting. Dakota Lithium states that 60 amp hours is optimal for a full day of fishing with 24V trolling motors if you rarely run at max power.

To estimate: divide 60 amp hours by your motor's average amp draw. For reference, a 24V 70 lb thrust motor has a max amp draw of 42A, and most anglers run well below max most of the day. Because LiFePO4 has a flat voltage curve, all 60 amp hours are usable unlike lead-acid, where roughly half the rated capacity is off-limits.

No. Dakota Lithium's standard deep cycle packs do not have cranking ability and cannot be used for starting motors. This is a deep cycle battery only. For engine starting, Dakota Lithium offers the LTO Automotive Cranking battery and the DL+ Dual Purpose line, which provide engine starting power for boat, car, or truck engines.

No. Dakota Lithium recommends a 24V 5A LiFePO4 charger, which is sold separately. You'll need a LiFePO4-specific charger, see the next question for what to look for.

Dakota Lithium LiFePO4 batteries perform best when charged by a LiFePO4-compatible charger. LiFePO4 batteries require a different charging profile and voltage than traditional chargers deliver. Chargers designed for other chemistries may work, but they may not charge the battery to full capacity.

Choose a charger that has a LiFePO4-compatible constant-current constant-voltage (CC/CV) profile, provides the correct charging voltage (28.8V recommended for this battery), does not exceed the battery's max charge current of 80A, and has a charge indicator LED. If you're not sure whether your charger is compatible, contact us before charging.

Dakota Lithium recommends a 12A (0.2C) charge current, with an 80A maximum. Charge time depends on the charger you use: divide the amp hour rating by the charger's amp output. With the recommended 24V 5A charger, a fully depleted 60Ah battery takes roughly 12 hours. A higher-output onboard charger will cut that significantly, as long as you stay within the 80A max charge current.

Yes. The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah is compatible with onboard charging. Use a LiFePO4-compatible 24V onboard charger and stay within the battery's 80A max charge current. This lets you mount the battery permanently and charge it in the boat instead of removing it after every trip. Dakota Lithium's recommended charge current is 12A (0.2C) at 28.8V.

The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah uses M8 bolt terminals with a max torque of 15 ft-lbs. These accept standard ring terminals and are easy to adapt to different connection needs. If your charger uses small alligator clips, they may not fit over M8 bolt terminals plan on ring terminals or a charger with an appropriate connection for a bolt-style terminal.

Yes. Dakota Lithium 24V batteries can be used in series for up to 48V systems. Two of these in series gives you a 48V, 60Ah bank with 3,072 Wh of energy.

Yes. Dakota Lithium states this battery can be linked in series or parallel for solar energy storage in the home, RV, boat, or off-grid applications. Two in parallel gives you 24V at 120Ah. When adding a battery to an existing setup, batteries should be at a matched state of charge before connecting.

No. The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah does not include Bluetooth monitoring or an onboard state of charge display. If you want to monitor capacity, you'll need a separate 24V battery monitor or shunt. Contact us and we can recommend one that suits your setup.

The battery performs well down to -20°F, with optimal operating temperatures of -20°F min to +120°F max. However, avoid charging below 32°F. Charging a frozen battery can damage the cells and reduce lifespan. This model does not have Dakota Lithium's Internal Even-Heat Technology, so if you need to charge in freezing conditions, choose a battery with internal heating or bring the battery into a climate-controlled space to charge.

Dakota Lithium batteries are built in a rugged, waterproof case and can be placed in any orientation. They are non-corrosive, do not off-gas, require no watering or maintenance, and contain no lead or acid. Do not submerse the battery enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals.

The Dakota Lithium 24V 60Ah is rated for 5,000 - 8,000 recharge cycles, roughly 8 - 10 years at regular use, and retains up to 80% capacity for 5,000 cycles in recommended conditions. A typical SLA battery delivers around 500 cycles. It's backed by Dakota Lithium's 11-year manufacturer defect warranty.

Yes. Dakota Lithium states that 60 amp hours can be linked in series or parallel for solar energy storage in the home, RV, boat, or off-grid applications. Each battery provides 1,536 Wh of energy, and multiple batteries can be combined for larger banks. For a 48V system, wire two in series.

The 24V 60Ah is a re-engineered version of Dakota Lithium's 24V 50Ah single battery. Compared to the 50Ah model, it delivers 20% more capacity, 60% more max power (80A max continuous discharge), 50% longer lifespan, 25% smaller size by volume, and 20% less weight.
