The Dakota Lithium 12V 100Ah is a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) deep cycle battery built for sustained, all-day power. It is a direct drop-in replacement for the lead acid or AGM battery in your trolling motor setup, RV, boat, or solar system fitting standard Group 24 and Group 27 battery trays with no modifications required. Unlike a lead acid battery that loses voltage as it drains, this battery maintains consistent voltage throughout the full discharge cycle, so your equipment runs the same at the end of the day as it did at the start.
-
Weighs 31.9 lbs, significantly lighter than a comparable lead acid battery (typically 55 to 60 lbs)
- Rated by the manufacturer for 2,000 or more charge cycles at 80% depth of discharge
-
Built-in Battery Management System (BMS) handles overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and temperature protection automatically
-
Covered by Dakota Lithium's 11-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship
Important: This is a deep cycle battery only. It is not designed to start gasoline engines, outboard motors, or vehicles. A LiFePO4-compatible charger set to 14.4V is required for full performance your existing lead acid charger will not charge this battery to full capacity. Charger sold separately.

Key Features
-
Consistent voltage throughout the full discharge cycle: LiFePO4 chemistry maintains a flat discharge curve per manufacturer specifications power does not fade as the battery drains, so your trolling motor and electronics perform the same from morning to end of day.
-
31.9 lbs: Significantly lighter than a comparable lead acid battery, which typically weighs 55 to 60 lbs, easier to load, carry, and install.
-
Rated for 5,000 or more charge cycles: Per Dakota Lithium manufacturer specifications at 80% depth of discharge. A standard sealed lead acid battery is typically rated for around 500 cycles.
-
Direct drop-in replacement: Fits BCI Group 24 and Group 27 battery trays, swaps in place of most AGM and lead acid batteries with no modifications required.
-
Built-in Battery Management System (BMS): Automatic overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and over-temperature protection, no adjustments or user intervention required.
-
No lead, no acid, no maintenance: Sealed and spill-proof. No watering, no terminal cleaning, no equalization charges required.
-
Cold weather discharge: Operates in discharge conditions down to -4F (-20C), suitable for ice fishing and winter outdoor use. Do not charge below 32F on standard model.
-
Expandable for multi-battery systems: Wire two batteries in series for 24V, three for 36V, four for 48V. Wire in parallel to increase total capacity at 12V.
-
Certified and transport approved: UL1642, UL 2054, IEC62133, UN 38.3, RVIA compliant, meets US and international regulations for air, ground, train, and marine shipping.
-
Dakota Lithium 11-year manufacturer warranty: Warranty is issued by Dakota Lithium and honored through their customer support team.
Compatible Applications
This battery is designed for deep cycle, sustained-draw applications. Below are the primary verified uses and what to know about each.
Trolling Motors
Compatible with 12V electric trolling motors. For 24V systems, wire two batteries in series. For 36V systems, wire three in series. Per Dakota Lithium's recommendations by motor thrust:
- 12V motors up to 55 lb thrust: 1 battery
- 24V motors, 70 to 80 lb thrust: 2 batteries wired in series
- 36V motors, 101 lb thrust and above: 3 batteries wired in series
RV and Camper House Power
Direct drop-in replacement for the house battery in most Class B, Class C, travel trailers, and camper vans. Fits standard Group 24 and Group 27 trays. If charging from the vehicle alternator, a DC-DC smart charger is recommended to deliver the correct LiFePO4 charge profile. If charging from solar panels, set your charge controller to the lithium or LiFePO4 setting.
Marine Electronics and Boating
Powers fish finders, GPS units, VHF radios, live well pumps, bilge pumps, and navigation lights. Multiple units can be wired in parallel to extend run time at 12V.
Solar Energy Storage
Works as a storage battery in 12V solar setups for off-grid cabins, backup power, and portable systems. Accepts up to 50A of charge input. Use a charge controller with a lithium or LiFePO4 profile setting.
Ice Fishing and Cold-Weather Use
Rated to discharge down to -4F (-20C). Suitable for running flashers, underwater cameras, electric augers, and shelter heaters in cold conditions. The standard model should not be charged below 32F. For all-season charging in freezing temperatures, see the Dakota Lithium 12V 100Ah with Even-Heat Technology.
Additional Uses
- Off-grid cabin and remote shelter power
- Emergency backup power for CPAP machines, lighting, and communications
- Kayak and canoe fishing electronics
- Home solar battery storage
Not compatible with: Starting gasoline or diesel engines. This battery will not start a car, truck, outboard motor, or generator. For engine starting applications, see Dakota Lithium's DL+ Dual Purpose battery line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this replace my current battery without any modifications?
In most cases, yes. This battery is built to the same physical dimensions as Group 24 and Group 27 lead acid and AGM batteries. It drops into the same tray, connects to the same cables, and takes up the same space. The main change is your charger you will need a LiFePO4-compatible charger for it to charge properly and reach full capacity.
Can I use my existing charger?
Your current lead acid or AGM charger may power the battery but will not charge it fully and can reduce its lifespan over time. LiFePO4 batteries require a charger delivering 14.4V with a compatible charging profile. A 12V 10A LiFePO4 charger will fully charge this battery in approximately 10 hours. A 12V 20A charger reduces that to about 5 hours. A compatible charger is available separately.
How long will this battery last?
According to Dakota Lithium's product specifications, this battery is rated for 2,000 or more charge cycles at 80% depth of discharge. At one charge and discharge cycle per week, that covers many years of regular use. A standard sealed lead acid battery is typically rated for around 500 cycles. Actual lifespan depends on charging practices, depth of discharge, and operating conditions.
Can I use it in cold weather or for ice fishing?
Yes, for discharging (running your equipment). It operates down to -4F (-20C), which covers typical winter outdoor and ice fishing use. The limitation is charging: the standard model should not be charged below 32F, as this can damage the cells. If you need to charge in freezing conditions, Dakota Lithium offers a version with built-in heating designed for that purpose.
Can I connect two or more batteries together?
Yes. Two batteries wired in series produce a 24V system. Three produce 36V. Four produce 48V. To increase capacity while staying at 12V, batteries can be wired in parallel. Use appropriately rated cables when building multi-battery systems.
Will it start my boat engine or outboard motor?
No. This is a deep cycle battery designed to power equipment over long periods not to deliver the high burst of current needed to crank an engine. Using it for engine starting can damage the battery. For engine starting, Dakota Lithium makes a separate dual-purpose battery built for that application.
Does it need any maintenance?
No. It is sealed, spill-proof, and requires no watering, no terminal cleaning, and no equalization charges. The built-in Battery Management System handles all internal protection automatically. Install it and use it.
What is covered under the warranty?
This battery is covered by Dakota Lithium's 11-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. As an authorized reseller, warranty claims are processed through Dakota Lithium's support team. The warranty does not cover damage from improper charging, physical damage, or use outside the battery's rated specifications. Read warranty tab or Contact us.
What charger do I need for my RV or solar setup?
For solar charging, use any charge controller with a LiFePO4 or lithium setting. For charging from your RV's alternator while driving, a DC-DC smart charger is recommended to protect both the battery and your vehicle's electrical system. For standard plugged-in charging, a 12V LiFePO4 charger rated at 10A or 20A works well. A compatible charger is available separately.
