The Bolt Energy 48V 105Ah Thin Kit is a drop-in lithium replacement for 48V lead-acid EZGO golf carts and utility vehicles. The thin form factor fits the factory battery tray on EZGO TXT, Express, MPT, Workhorse, and Terrain models replacing six heavy lead-acid batteries with one LiFePO4 battery that runs longer, charges faster, and requires no maintenance.

About the voltage: This is the correct lithium replacement for any 48V golf cart. The nominal voltage of LiFePO4 lithium is 51.2V, but the battery is built and rated for 48V systems. You will see both "48V" and "51.2V" referenced in lithium golf cart shopping they mean the same thing.

Choose your kit: Standard (10 items) or Professional (14 items). Both include the same 48V 105Ah Thin battery, the waterproof high-speed charger, the smart SOC meter, and the Bluetooth receiver. The Professional kit adds a 30-amp voltage reducer, 2-AWG installation cables, a 400A solenoid, and a lead battery removal strap. A heated battery upgrade is available with either kit for cold-weather charging.

Have a factory lithium EZGO? If your 2017-2019 TXT or 2020-2022 RXV came from the factory with Samsung Gen 1 lithium (one or two slim battery modules instead of six lead-acid batteries), this is not the right kit. Those carts use a CAN bus and need the Bolt Energy 48V 105Ah Thin CAN Adapter Kit instead.

Why Upgrade to Lithium?

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is the chemistry used in this battery. It is the safest and longest-lasting type of lithium battery commonly used in golf carts, with a typical lifespan of 3,000 to 5,000 charge cycles compared to 500 to 800 cycles for lead-acid.

Lead-acid batteries are the weakest part of any older golf cart. They get heavier as they age, lose range fast in cold weather, need monthly watering, and rarely last past 4 or 5 years.

Switching to a Bolt Energy 48V 105Ah lithium battery solves all of that:

  • Roughly 250 lb of weight comes off the cart, improving acceleration and hill climbing
  • Steady power from a full charge down to nearly empty, no voltage sag
  • Charge in 4 to 6 hours instead of 8 to 12
  • No watering, no terminal corrosion, no acid spills
  • 3,000 to 5,000 charge cycles instead of 500 to 800
  • Bluetooth monitoring shows charge level and battery health on your phone

Key Benefits

  • Drop-in fit. Replaces six 8V lead-acid batteries with one Thin lithium battery in the factory tray.
  • 5,376 Wh of LiFePO4 energy. Lithium iron phosphate is stable, long-lasting, and safer than other lithium types.
  • Up to 40 miles per charge. Range depends on terrain, load, tire size, and driving style.
  • 250A continuous BMS. Handles hills, lifted carts, and full-passenger loads without dropping voltage.
  • Lighter cart. About 250 lb lighter than a full lead-acid pack, improving handling and reducing brake wear.
  • Smart SOC meter and Bluetooth app. See state of charge, voltage, and battery health on the dash and on your phone.
  • Waterproof high-speed charger included. Matched to the battery for safe lithium charging.
  • Optional heated upgrade. Adds self-heating for charging in cold weather.
  • Transferable warranty. Coverage transfers to the next owner if you sell the cart.

  • 2x 40" 2-AWG premium installation cables. Heavy-gauge cables built for the full current draw of a lithium pack under hill loads.
  • 400A heavy-duty solenoid. An upgraded solenoid that handles lithium's higher current peaks better than the factory unit.
  • Lead battery removal strap. Makes pulling out the six old lead-acid batteries faster and safer during install.

About the heated upgrade: The heated battery option adds a built-in heating system that warms the cells before charging when temperatures are below the safe charging threshold. It's a good choice for owners who store and charge the cart in unheated garages, barns, or outdoors during winter. See the Cold Weather Performance section below for details.

Vehicle Compatibility

The Bolt Energy 48V 105Ah Thin Kit fits five EZGO platforms that share a common 48V lead-acid battery tray design: the TXT (2001-2024), the Express series (2014-2024), the MPT 800 and MPT 1000 (1996-2009), the Workhorse 800 and 1200 (2009-2017), and the Terrain 250 and 1000 (2012-present). It does not fit the EZGO RXV, EZGO factory lithium models, or 36V carts.

Make Model Years Power
EZGO TXT 2001-2024 48V Lead-Acid
EZGO Express S4 / L4 / S6 / L6 2014-2024 48V Lead-Acid
EZGO Express S4 HO 2014-2024 48V Lead-Acid
EZGO MPT 800 / MPT 1000 1996-2009 48V Lead-Acid
EZGO Workhorse 800 / 1200 2009-2017 48V Lead-Acid
EZGO Terrain 250 / 1000 2012-Present 48V Lead-Acid

Not compatible

  • EZGO RXV (any year): The RXV uses a different battery tray and needs the Bolt Energy 51V 105Ah Square Kit instead.
  • Factory lithium carts: 2017-2019 TXT and 2020-2022 RXV with Samsung Gen 1 lithium need the CAN Adapter version.
  • 36V carts: Pre-2001 TXT and other 36V models need a 36V lithium kit.

Installation Information

Installation typically takes 1 to 3 hours and replaces all six lead-acid batteries with one Thin lithium battery in the same tray.

Basic steps

  • Turn the key off and set the tow/run switch to "TOW"
  • Disconnect the main negative cable first, then the positive
  • Remove the six lead-acid batteries and any hold-down brackets
  • Clean the battery tray and remove any corrosion
  • For EZGO TXT only: install the included bracket over the center spine of the tray, since the TXT frame has a raised steel beam that needs to be cleared
  • Place the Bolt Thin battery into the tray and secure with the included hardware
  • Connect battery cables (positive first, then negative)
  • Replace the factory charger with the included lithium charger
  • Complete a first full charge and pair the Bluetooth module with the Bolt app

Who installs it

Most golf cart owners with basic mechanical skills can install this kit themselves. Any EZGO-authorized dealer or local golf cart service shop can also complete the install.

Performance Improvements

Replacing six lead-acid batteries with one Bolt Energy 105Ah Thin changes how the cart feels to drive. Owners report faster acceleration from a stop, stronger hill climbing under full passenger loads, and steady power until the battery is nearly empty.

Real-world driving

Bolt Energy data shows owners commonly report up to 40 miles per charge on stock carts. Real range depends on terrain, passenger load, tire size, speed, and accessories. Lifted carts with larger tires and full passenger loads will see shorter ranges.

Cold Weather Performance

Lithium batteries should not be charged when the cells are below freezing. The optional Heated upgrade solves that the battery warms itself before charging in cold conditions, so you can plug in even when it's well below freezing outside.

How the heated battery works

  • Heated batteries warm themselves as they start to charge. Once they reach around 34°F, normal charging begins.
  • The heating system only runs when the battery is below the charging temperature and shuts off automatically once the proper temperature is reached.
  • The battery can charge in unheated places such as garages, barns, and outdoors.
  • The heating system only activates while the charger is plugged in.
  • Heated batteries can warm themselves overnight and be ready to use the next day.
  • Charge and discharge specifications stay the same as the standard (non-heated) battery.

Bluetooth Monitoring

Every kit includes a Bluetooth module that pairs with the free Bolt Energy mobile app on iOS and Android. Once paired, the app shows:

  • State of charge (percentage remaining)
  • Battery voltage
  • Cell temperature
  • Current draw while driving
  • Charging status
  • Battery health and cycle count

If a problem develops, an authorized Bolt dealer can review the battery's data through the app, which often resolves issues without bringing the cart in for service.

Warranty

This battery is covered by Bolt Energy's transferable warranty. If you sell your golf cart, the remaining warranty transfers to the new owner adding resale value compared to a non-transferable factory replacement.

Specific warranty length and terms are listed on the Bolt Energy warranty document included with the kit and on file with our customer service team. For Full Details read our Warranty Tab

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this kit fit my golf cart?

This kit fits 48V lead-acid EZGO TXT, Express (S4, L4, S6, L6, S4 HO), MPT 800/1000, Workhorse 800/1200, and Terrain 250/1000. It does not fit EZGO RXV, factory lithium carts, or 36V carts. Check the compatibility section above for years.

What's the difference between the Standard and Professional kit?

Both kits include the same 48V 105Ah battery, the waterproof high-speed charger, the smart SOC meter, the Bluetooth receiver, mounting hardware, and connection accessories, 10 items total.

The Professional kit adds 4 more items: a 30-amp voltage reducer (for 12V accessories like lights and radio), heavy-duty 2-AWG installation cables, a 400A solenoid upgrade, and a lead battery removal strap. Choose Professional if your cart doesn't already have a 12V reducer or if you want the upgraded cables and solenoid in one box.

Do I need the heated battery upgrade?

If you live in a warm climate or store your cart in a heated garage, no, the standard battery works fine. If you store or charge your cart in cold conditions (unheated garage, barn, outdoor), the heated upgrade lets the battery charge safely in freezing temperatures.

How do I know if I have lead-acid or factory lithium?

Lift the seat and look at the battery compartment. Lead-acid carts have six separate batteries with vent caps on top. Factory lithium carts (2017-2019 TXT or 2020-2022 RXV) have one or two slim rectangular battery modules. If you have factory lithium, you need the CAN Adapter version of this kit instead.

Does the stock charger work with the new battery?

No. Lead-acid chargers cannot safely charge lithium batteries. Every kit includes a lithium charger matched to the Bolt battery. Use only the included charger.

How far can I drive on one charge?

Bolt Energy data shows owners commonly report up to 40 miles per charge on stock carts. Real range depends on terrain, passenger load, tire size, speed, and accessories. Lifted carts and heavier loads see shorter ranges.

Can I install it myself?

Most owners with basic mechanical skills can complete the install in 1 to 3 hours. The kit comes with instructions. Any EZGO-authorized dealer or golf cart service shop can also handle the install.

Do I need a voltage reducer for lights and accessories?

Yes if your cart has 12V accessories like lights, radio, USB outlets, or fan. The Professional kit includes a 30-amp voltage reducer. The Standard kit does not, if you already have a working voltage reducer on the cart, the Standard kit is fine. If not, choose Professional or add a reducer separately.

Will it make my cart faster?

This battery does not change your cart's programmed top speed, which is set by the controller. It does provide steadier voltage under load and a lighter overall cart, which improves acceleration and hill climbing.

What happens to the cart in cold weather?

Driving (discharging) the battery is fine in cold weather. Charging a cold lithium battery is the issue, the cells shouldn't be charged below freezing. The heated upgrade warms the cells before charging, so the cart can be plugged in overnight in cold conditions.

Is the warranty transferable?

Yes. If you sell your golf cart, the remaining warranty transfers to the new owner. The full warranty document is included with the kit. For Full Details read our Warranty Tab.

How long does the battery last?

LiFePO4 cells are rated for 3,000 to 5,000 charge cycles, which typically translates to 10 to 15 years of normal use.
