The Allied DC-to-DC Step-Down Converter allows you to power 12-volt accessories headlights, horn, speakers, USB chargers, fans from a 36V or 48V Allied Lithium battery. Without this converter, 12V accessories cannot be connected to a lithium golf cart battery. It accepts an input of 30 to 60 volts DC and outputs a regulated 12 volts DC at up to 30 amps.
The converter is housed in a die-cast aluminum shell rated IP68 for waterproofing suitable for under-seat and exterior mounting on golf carts used in wet or humid conditions. It includes extended wires with pre-fitted O-rings for direct connection to Allied Lithium battery terminals, and two butt connectors for wiring multiple accessories. No additional adapters are needed for connection to an Allied battery.
Built-in protections include over-voltage, over-current, output reverse polarity, and automatic load recognition. These protections prevent damage to the converter and connected accessories in the event of a wiring error or voltage spike. Compatible with Allied 36V and 48V lithium batteries, and with any 36V or 48V golf cart system with an input voltage between 30 and 60 volts DC.
Required for: Any Allied Lithium 36V or 48V battery installation where the cart has 12V accessories (headlights, horn, USB ports, stereo, or fan). The lithium battery does not provide a 12V output this converter is the only way to power those accessories after a lead-acid-to-lithium conversion.

Amperage note: The 30-amp output supports the total combined draw of all connected 12V accessories. Add up the amp draw of each accessory before wiring. Typical golf cart accessories: LED headlights 3–5A, horn 2–4A, stereo 5–10A, USB charger 1–2A. Most standard golf cart accessory setups draw well under 30A total.
FAQs
Why do I need this converter after installing a lithium battery?
Lead-acid battery packs power 12V accessories by tapping off two batteries in the pack to get a 12V output. A lithium battery is a single sealed unit, there is no way to tap a 12V output from it directly. This converter takes the 48V (or 36V) output of the battery and steps it down to a stable 12V supply for your accessories. Without it, nothing 12V will function after the lead-acid pack is removed.
Will this work with any 48V lithium battery or only Allied?
The converter accepts any input between 30 and 60 volts DC, so it is electrically compatible with any 36V or 48V lithium battery in that range not just Allied. The O-rings and extended wires included in the kit are sized specifically for Allied battery terminals. If you are using a different brand of battery, you can still use this converter but may need to adapt the wiring connections.
How many accessories can I run off this converter at once?
The converter outputs up to 30 amps at 12 volts, which is 360 watts total. That is enough for a typical golf cart accessory setup. Add up the amp draw of each accessory to confirm you are within the 30A limit: LED headlights typically draw 3–5A, a horn 2–4A, a stereo 5–10A, and a USB charger 1–2A. Two included butt connectors allow you to wire multiple accessories from a single output.
Where do I mount it on the cart?
The IP68 waterproof rating means it can be mounted in exposed locations including under the seat, under the front dash, or on the frame. Most owners mount it near the battery compartment to keep the input wiring short, then run the 12V output wire forward to the accessories. The aluminum housing dissipates heat during operation leave a small amount of clearance around it rather than boxing it in completely.
Does it work with a 72V battery?
No. This converter accepts input up to 60 volts DC. A 72V lithium battery operates above that range and will damage the converter. For 72V systems, a separate step-down converter rated for 72V input is required. Contact us or Allied Battery to confirm the correct converter for your voltage.
Does installing this converter affect the battery warranty?
No. The Allied warranty covers the battery itself. Connecting a step-down converter to the battery's output terminals does not affect warranty coverage as long as the converter is wired correctly and does not create an electrical fault that damages the battery. Do not connect the converter directly across the battery terminals in a way that bypasses the BMS output, wire it to the load-side terminals as shown in the Allied installation guide.
