Our experts are here to help you find the lithium battery for your needs.

The Eco Battery GEN3 51.2V Lithium Conversion Kit is a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery replacement for the Polaris Ranger EV.

The nominal voltage is 51.2V, fully compatible with the Polaris Ranger EV 48V system. It is available in two capacities: 105Ah (Kit B-3171) and 150Ah (Kit B-3180). Each kit replaces the factory lead-acid battery pack all eight 12V batteries with a single lithium unit, along with a compatible CAN charger, LCD state-of-charge meter, charge port, vehicle-specific mounting hardware, and a remote wake-up button. Eco Battery is manufactured by ECO Capital and is headquartered in Saint George, Utah.

Why the Polaris Ranger EV Requires a High-Discharge Battery

The Polaris Ranger EV is powered by a 30-horsepower, 48V three-phase AC motor. This motor requires a minimum of 200A continuous discharge to operate under normal driving conditions, and up to 400A peak discharge during acceleration, hill climbs, and towing. A battery with a BMS rated below these thresholds will trigger a protective shutdown under load a common issue when standard golf-cart batteries, which are typically rated at 175A continuous or lower, are used in the Ranger EV.

The Eco Battery GEN3 BMS is rated at 250A continuous discharge, 550A for 10 seconds, and 600A for 5 seconds confirmed in official data sheets 051105-03 and 051150-06. These ratings apply to both the 105Ah and 150Ah models.

Vehicle Compatibility

Compatible vehicles: Polaris Ranger EV (lead-acid, 2010-2021) and Polaris Ranger EV Li-Ion (2016-2021), including Mid-Size and 2-Seat variants. The included Polaris Ranger EV-specific mounting kit (A-8172) fits all compatible model years without modification. The Sevcon motor controller does not require reprogramming.

What Changes After Switching from Lead-Acid to Lithium

  • No maintenance: LiFePO4 batteries do not require water refilling, produce no acid fumes, and do not corrode terminals. The factory lead-acid pack requires monthly water level checks to avoid cell damage.
  • Weight reduction: The factory lead-acid pack weighs approximately 650-700 lbs across eight batteries. The 105Ah lithium unit weighs 113 lbs. The 150Ah unit weighs 165 lbs.
  • Usable capacity: Lead-acid batteries are typically discharged to 50% depth to preserve cell life. LiFePO4 cells can be discharged to approximately 95% depth, delivering more usable energy from the same rated capacity.
  • Cycle life: LiFePO4 cells are rated for 2,000-3,000 charge cycles at 80% depth of discharge, compared to approximately 300-500 cycles for flooded lead-acid batteries.
  • Partial charging: LiFePO4 chemistry has no memory effect. The battery can be charged to any level at any time without affecting long-term capacity.
  • Cold weather charging protection: The GEN3 BMS automatically disables charging when battery temperature drops below 32F to prevent cell damage. Built into both models.
  • Silent operation: No lead-acid equalization cycle noise. Relevant for hunting, livestock environments, and noise-sensitive use.

FAQs

The Eco Battery GEN3 51.2V lithium conversion kit replaces the factory lead-acid battery pack in the Polaris Ranger EV with a single LiFePO4 lithium battery. It is available in 105Ah (Kit B-3171) and 150Ah (Kit B-3180). Each kit includes the battery, a CAN charger, an LCD state-of-charge meter, a charge port, vehicle-specific mounting hardware, and a remote wake-up button. It is manufactured by ECO Capital, headquartered in Saint George, Utah.

This kit is compatible with the following Polaris Ranger EV models:

  • Polaris Ranger EV (lead-acid) 2010 through 2021
  • Polaris Ranger EV Li-Ion (factory lithium) 2016 through 2021
  • Polaris Mid-Size Ranger EV 2010 through 2015
  • Polaris 2-Seat Ranger EV 2016 through 2021

The included mounting kit (A-8172) is designed specifically for the Polaris Ranger EV chassis and fits all compatible model years without modification.

The Polaris Ranger EV uses a 30-horsepower, 48V three-phase AC motor. This is a constant-torque motor that draws continuous current across its full RPM range unlike a golf cart DC motor, which tapers current draw as speed increases. Under normal driving conditions, the Ranger EV draws approximately 150-230 amps continuously. During acceleration, hill climbs, or towing, peak draws can reach 300-400 amps for short periods.

A battery BMS rated below 200A continuous will trigger a protective shutdown under sustained load. The Eco Battery GEN3 BMS is rated at 250A continuous, 550A at 10 seconds, and 600A at 5 seconds confirmed in official data sheets.

Both models use the same GEN3 BMS with identical discharge ratings (250A continuous, 600A peak). The differences are:

  • Capacity: 105Ah = 5,376Wh | 150Ah = 7,680Wh.
  • Estimated range: 105Ah up to 45 miles | 150Ah up to 65 miles. Both under ideal conditions.
  • Weight: 105Ah = 113 lbs | 150Ah = 165 lbs.
  • Width: 105Ah (Skinny) = 9.75". 150Ah = 12.125". Verify your battery bay width before ordering.
  • Discharge temperature: 105Ah operates down to -20F | 150Ah operates down to -4F.
  • Flange supports: 105Ah kit uses narrow supports (A-8013). 150Ah kit uses wide supports (A-8016).

The 105Ah is suited for weekend use, light farm work, hunting, and properties under 15 miles daily.

The 150Ah is suited for daily operations, regular towing and hauling, and routes over 40 miles per day.

The Sevcon motor controller does not require reprogramming. The Eco Battery GEN3 is compatible with both the lead-acid and Li-Ion factory Sevcon controller variants out of the box.

The kit includes its own A-1055 38V-51V 15A CAN charger, which replaces the factory Delta Q QuiQ charger. No reprogramming is required the A-1055 is plug-and-play with the GEN3 battery.

If your charger is CAN-enabled: connect the CAN cable from the charger to one of the two CAN ports on the meter cable. The battery must be powered on indicated by the illuminated power button to accept a charge.

Both models include built-in cold weather charging protection. When the battery temperature is below 32F at the time the charger is connected, the BMS automatically prevents charging to protect the cells. Charging resumes automatically once the battery warms above 32F.

For discharging (driving), the 105Ah operates down to -20F. The 150Ah operates down to -4F. For use in climates where temperatures regularly drop below 0F, the 105Ah model has a wider operating range.

Yes. Both the 105Ah and 150Ah units are parallel-connectable, with a maximum of 2 units. Two 105Ah units in parallel provide 210Ah total capacity (10,752Wh). Two 150Ah units provide 300Ah total capacity (15,360Wh). Contact Eco Battery or contact us for guidance on dual-battery installation for your specific model year.

Installation time varies depending on the model year and installer experience. The process involves disconnecting and removing all eight factory lead-acid batteries, mounting the single lithium unit using the included A-8172 bracket and flange supports, connecting the CAN charger and meter, and installing the remote wake-up button. No rewiring and no controller reprogramming are required. Basic hand tools are sufficient.

It is recommended to download the Eco Battery mobile app and perform the initial firmware update via Bluetooth during first setup.

The Eco Battery GEN3 is covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty from ECO Capital. Registration at ecobattery.com is required within 60 days of purchase for full coverage. Batteries not registered within 60 days are covered for 1 year only.

  • Years 0-6: Free repair or replacement at ECO Capital's discretion.
  • Years 6-9: Replacement available at 50% of ECO Capital's MSRP at time of claim.
  • Years 9-12: Replacement available at 75% of ECO Capital's MSRP at time of claim.

See the Warranty tab for complete terms and conditions.

The GEN3 BMS includes Bluetooth connectivity and is compatible with the Eco Battery mobile app. Firmware updates are delivered through the app directly to the battery no dealer visit or hardware return required. Eco Battery recommends connecting to the app and completing the initial firmware update during first installation.

Yes. The factory lithium-ion pack in the 2016-2021 Polaris Ranger EV Li-Ion degrades over time. Replacement through Polaris dealers is typically more expensive than a third-party lithium conversion kit. The Eco Battery GEN3 kit is compatible with the factory Li-Ion controller variant without reprogramming, and includes a Limited Lifetime Warranty with US-based support from ECO Capital.

The Eco Battery GEN3 uses the same LiFePO4 cell chemistry found in golf cart batteries, but the BMS specifications are different. A standard golf cart motor draws approximately 30-100A continuously. The Polaris Ranger EV motor draws 150-230A continuously and up to 400A at peak. Golf cart batteries with a BMS rated at 175A continuous or lower will trigger protective shutdowns under Ranger EV loads.

The Eco Battery GEN3 BMS is rated at 250A continuous and 600A peak confirmed in official data sheets. The kit also includes a Polaris Ranger EV-specific mounting bracket (A-8172), not a generic golf cart tray.
