The Dakota Lithium DL+ 36V 135Ah Dual Purpose Battery Set consists of three DL+ 12V 135Ah LiFePO4 batteries wired in series to build a complete 36-volt power system. Designed as a direct replacement for 36V lead-acid battery banks, this set is built for 36V trolling motors, offshore marine electronics, and 36V golf carts that require high-capacity, reliable power over extended periods.
Each battery in this set is a dual purpose LiFePO4 unit it provides both deep-cycle capacity for sustained power delivery and high-surge output for engine starting applications. The flat discharge voltage curve means consistent power output throughout the entire discharge cycle, without the gradual fade typical of lead-acid or standard AGM batteries.
The set includes three DL+ 12V 135Ah batteries with Internal Even-Heat Technology, which automatically warms the cells before charging when temperatures drop below freezing. This allows year-round use in cold climates where standard lithium batteries cannot safely charge.
At 27.2 lbs per battery (81.6 lbs for the full set), this system weighs significantly less than a comparable lead-acid battery bank, which typically ranges from 250 to 350 lbs for a 36V configuration. The Group 24 case size fits most standard battery trays without modification.
Each battery includes a Bluetooth Power Gauge for real-time monitoring of state of charge and battery performance via smartphone.
Installation note: Wire all three 12V batteries in series to create the 36V system. The included terminal adapter kit is compatible with most marine, automotive, and golf cart terminals.
Charger note: A LiFePO4-compatible charger is required. Dakota Lithium 36V 8A LiFePO4 Charger or 36V 20A On-Board Charger (Sold Separately)
Features
LiFePO4 Chemistry (Lithium Iron Phosphate)
Lithium Iron Phosphate is a stable, well-established battery chemistry that provides a longer cycle life, better thermal stability, and more consistent voltage output compared to lead-acid, AGM, or other lithium chemistries. This set is built with LiFePO4 cells certified to UL1642 and IEC62133 standards.
Dual Purpose: Deep Cycle and Engine Starting
Each DL+ 12V 135Ah battery provides 135Ah of deep-cycle capacity alongside 1,000 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) of engine starting power. This dual-purpose design supports both sustained draw applications (trolling motors, golf carts) and high-surge starting applications from a single battery.
Flat Discharge Voltage Curve
The LiFePO4 chemistry maintains a stable output voltage throughout most of the discharge cycle. This means your trolling motor, golf cart, or connected electronics receive consistent power from full charge down to near-empty, rather than progressively weaker output as the battery depletes.
Internal Even-Heat Technology
A built-in heating element automatically warms the battery cells to 32°F before charging begins when ambient temperatures drop below freezing. This protects cell integrity in cold weather and extends overall battery lifespan for users in cold climates or year-round outdoor environments.
Bluetooth Power Gauge
Each battery includes integrated Bluetooth connectivity. Use the companion app to monitor voltage, state of charge, and battery health in real time from a smartphone. Useful for anglers managing power across a full day on the water and golf cart owners tracking remaining range.
Active Battery Management System (BMS)
The integrated BMS handles cell balancing, low voltage cutoff, high voltage cutoff, short circuit protection, and high temperature protection. These protections extend battery lifespan and prevent damage from common use errors. Note: after a BMS cutoff, a LiFePO4 charger is required to reset and reactivate the battery.
Fast Charge Acceptance
The DL+ 135Ah accepts up to 135 amps of charge current, allowing a full recharge in approximately 60 minutes when paired with a compatible 135A alternator or high-output LiFePO4 charger. Standard lead-acid batteries of comparable size typically require 8 to 12 hours for a full recharge.
Significant Weight Reduction
The three-battery set weighs 81.6 lbs total. A standard 36V lead-acid golf cart battery bank typically weighs between 250 and 350 lbs. This reduction in carried weight improves vehicle handling, reduces mechanical wear, and makes transport and installation more manageable.
Maintenance-Free Operation
Unlike flooded lead-acid batteries, these LiFePO4 batteries require no water refilling, no equalization charges, no terminal corrosion management from off-gassing, and no seasonal storage preparation beyond maintaining a partial charge.
Long Cycle Life
Rated for up to 5,000 cycles to 80% capacity under recommended conditions. A standard lead-acid battery is typically rated for approximately 500 cycles. Over a 10-year period, the cost per cycle of this lithium set is substantially lower than repeatedly replacing lead-acid batteries.
11-Year Manufacturer Defect Warranty
Dakota Lithium provides an 11-year warranty against manufacturer defects. This is among the longest warranty periods available in the LiFePO4 battery category. Retain your purchase receipt and register your batteries to ensure warranty eligibility. Contact us for help.

FAQs
Is this battery set a drop-in replacement for my 36V lead-acid golf cart batteries?
For most standard 36V golf carts including Club Car, Yamaha, EZGo, Polaris, GEM Car, Taylor-Dunn, Par Car, and Star EV, this set installs without rewiring or modification. The Group 24 case size and included terminal adapter kit fit most standard battery trays and connection types. Before purchasing, confirm your golf cart uses a 36V battery system and that your motor controller is rated at or below 400 amps. If you are unsure of your controller's amp rating, the 135Ah set is the recommended option as it is compatible with nearly all 36V cart motors currently in production.
How long will this set last on a full charge running a 36V trolling motor?
Run time depends on motor thrust, throttle position, current, wind, and load conditions. At moderate use with a 36V 80 to 112 lb thrust trolling motor, most users report full-day run time without depleting below 50% charge. The flat LiFePO4 discharge curve means your motor runs at consistent speed throughout the discharge cycle rather than progressively slowing as the battery depletes. Each battery includes a Bluetooth Power Gauge to monitor real-time state of charge from your smartphone.
Will these batteries charge in cold weather?
Yes. Each DL+ 12V 135Ah battery includes Internal Even-Heat Technology, a built-in heating element that automatically warms the cells to 32°F before charging begins when the battery is below freezing. This allows safe charging down to -20°F without manual intervention. Standard LiFePO4 batteries without this feature should not be charged below 32°F, as doing so can permanently damage the cells. For discharge, these batteries operate normally down to -4°F.
Do I need a special charger?
Yes, a LiFePO4-compatible charger is required. Using a standard lead-acid charger long-term will reduce performance and shorten battery lifespan. For faster turnaround, the Dakota Lithium 36V 20A On-Board Charger (sold separately) is compatible with this system. Do not use a lead-acid, AGM, or unregulated charger as your primary charging solution.
What is the total weight of this set compared to lead-acid?
The three-battery DL+ 36V 135Ah set weighs 81.6 lbs total (27.2 lbs per battery). A standard 36V lead-acid golf cart battery bank using six 6V batteries typically weighs between 250 and 350 lbs. This weight reduction of 170 to 270 lbs improves vehicle handling, reduces wear on mechanical components, and makes battery installation and transport significantly easier.
Can I use these batteries to start my outboard motor?
Each DL+ 12V 135Ah battery provides 1,000 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), which is sufficient to start most gasoline car, truck, and boat engines. However, some outboard motor manufacturers have issued guidance against using lithium batteries as dedicated cranking batteries in their engines. Check your outboard engine manufacturer's recommendations before using this battery as a primary cranking source. These batteries are well-suited for trolling motor applications without restriction.
Can I wire these batteries in parallel to get more capacity?
Dakota Lithium does not recommend wiring multiple DL+ batteries in parallel due to the risk of cell imbalance and BMS conflicts between units. These three batteries are designed to be wired in series to create the 36V system. If you need more capacity within a 36V setup, consult Dakota Lithium's current product line for higher Ah single-unit 36V options.
What is the difference between the DL+ 60Ah set and the DL+ 135Ah set?
The 60Ah set provides approximately 18 to 25 miles of golf cart range and is rated for motor controllers up to 400 amps with a maximum inrush current of 650 amps. The 135Ah set provides approximately 50 miles of range per charge and supports a wider range of motor controllers. If you do not know your golf cart motor controller's amp rating, or if you operate a high-thrust trolling motor for extended periods, the 135Ah set provides more universal compatibility.
What does the 11-year warranty cover?
The 11-year warranty covers manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover physical damage, damage caused by improper installation, use with incompatible chargers, or use outside the specified operating conditions. To maintain warranty eligibility, retain your purchase receipt and register your batteries with Dakota Lithium. Warranty service typically requires shipping the battery to Dakota Lithium for evaluation. Read the Warranty tab for full details.
What happens if the BMS shuts off the battery?
The Battery Management System (BMS) may cut off the battery if it detects an overvoltage, undervoltage, short circuit, or high temperature condition. After a BMS cutoff, the battery will not respond to normal use until it is connected to a LiFePO4 charger, which resets and reactivates the BMS. A standard lead-acid charger will not reset the BMS. Always use a LiFePO4-compatible charger with this battery.
